I received video of a life capsule floating around ST-37 block. Not sure if related but it is in the area.

Video sent to me via fb messenger

For those of you not familiar with a lift boat.

Look at Tgrbaitn ’ picture. Those legs jack up and down. They have pads as big as your bedroom on the bottom of them.

By jacking them down to the seabed, they are able to lift the hull out of the water even with the deck of the stationary platform.

The hull has a galley, sleeping quarters etc, to accommodate the workers.

They are absolutely treacherous if you frick up by getting caught like they did with the legs up in rough weather.

Appreciate that description. I figured they operate something like that, but wasn't sure. I can see where that would be a big problem in rough weather.

I knew the weather was gonna be bad today but nothing like this. I’m sure those guys thought the same and caught in some nasty nasty stuff. Praying everyone is safe.

Just curious howlong does it take for the jacks to go down? Would there be enough time to deploy them in a pinch or is it too slow or too much risk with subsea surface

There was a gust of 112mph south of Grand Isle, too.

From data that I have access to via work, I can verify these unofficial winds from a platform offshore south of Grand Isle

Elevation: 190 feet above sea level
Time 4:00 PM to 4:05 PM CDT
5-second Wind Gust: 107 mph (4:01 PM CDT)
1-minute average wind: 96 mph (4:01 to 4:02 PM CDT)
5-minute average wind: 84 mph
5 minute minimum wind: 57 mph

Based on the map posted on the previous page, the Seacor Power was in the same general area of the Gulf at this time.

At this time I am told there are 5 persons still missing and helo’s are in the air searching for the remaining 5. Praying all make it home. “

This was a Tweet from @paytonmalonewx

Someone on a platform south of Grand Isle sent a report that showed a gust of 112 mph. That was about 50 feet off the sea. Said it was sustained at 70/80 mph for about 30-40 mins. Gusting 80/90 mph. This is what it looks like. ?? @NWSNewOrleans @spann

Sounds like the storm that hit Mobile Bay during a regatta in April 2015, except on a much larger scale.

No. You can’t just stop and decide to down where ever you want. There’s a lot that goes into where you can and cannot jack down. Those boats should never be sailing in more than 5’ seas.

In order for those boats to Jack down they have to know the sea floor, it’s topography and what’s underneath.

That seems pretty much in line with the data I have seen. Must have been in the same area.

The data I'm seeing right now for the same platform still shows gusts to 60+ mph in the past 20 minutes.
