I mean they went undefeated all year and lost in the championship game, so I don’t think they were overrated at all

Covid champs.
This is kind of silly to say because Baylor was undefeated I think when they got hit with the COVID pause, and they didn't play for 3 weeks and didn't look like themselves when they came back.
To the OP, 2018 Nova was all around better IMO, although you could argue Baylor had more athletic guards, but that Nova team wasn't completely dependent on its guards and unlike this year's Gonzaga team, was very athletic in the frontcourt.

Complete nonsense. They lost in the title game to a great team.

2018 Villanova beats this Baylor team, I think.
But those are probably the two best teams in a while.

I don’t see how they’re overrated. The Big 10 was overrated, not Gonzaga losing the championship to a great team that lost, what, 3 games?

We've come to this?
You make the title game against the best competition and if you don't win you're overrated?
This is the crap that has invaded CFB, if you don't win the MNC, you're irrelevant.
Baylor made 30 points on threes, the Zags 15.
The final score was 16 points. That was the difference. You can't predict what team will be hot from 3 and what team won't. Zags moved the ball great but Baylor was too fast and got away with loose officiating.

The Zags had a great team and anyone who watched them this year could see that (though I realize they have been overrated at times in the past). They shot 51% tonight and still lost by 16. That's not something you see everyday. That's how good Baylor was tonight.

96 Kentucky
Although going back even further I think '90 UNLV and '91-'92 Dukes was better than the '96 Kentucky squad. To get better than those two I say you have to go back to the late 69s early 70s Bruins.

This is a most popular list:
1. UCLA Bruins (1966-67)
2. UCLA Bruins (1971-72)
3. North Carolina Tar Heels (1956-57)
4. San Francisco Dons (1955-56)
5. Kentucky Wildcats (1995-96)
6. Duke Blue Devils (1990-91)
7. UCLA Bruins (1963-64)
8. Indiana Hoosiers (1975-76)
9. UNLV Runnin’ Rebels (1989-90)
10. North Carolina Tar Heels (1981-82)
This Baylor team might've got consideration for the Top 10 after their performance tonight.

I totally agree, it's stupid to suggest Gonzaga was overrated based on one game. They had a fantastic year, and are a fantastic program.
That said, I stand by my assertion that they choked tonight. They looked out on their feet from the jump, and didn't somewhat recover until the last 5 minutes of the 1st half when they were already in a deep hole.
They didn't hit from 3, didn't hit their FTs, and had some sloppy turnovers. That's stuff they had some control over, despite getting bossed on the boards all night. Baylor was awesome, but they were in early foul trouble, and even Raftery said Gonzaga looked off.
They were an undefeated #1 overall seed, and got wrecked from start to finish on the biggest stage. I'd imagine most of America expected a better performance from them.

Back-to-back UF teams not mentioned here?

The 06-07 team should at least be on there somewhere. They ramped it up in the postseason, and didn't encounter any Cinderellas on their run.

Hell if we're going back to the 50s what about those Kentucky teams that Rupp had? Won the natty 3/4 years and another one a little later.

Just because of some not-so-much recency bias, I actually think UNLV 89-91 is the best back to back team squad ever for that period. And they lost to Duke in 91 in FF after beating them by 30 the year prior.
Good on Duke, but I'd have a difficult time betting against UNLV in that two year span.

They won by 2 points in the rematch with a lame arse final possession by UNLV after UNLV blew them out the year prior and it was just the same squads the next year.
Still think UNLV tanked that game.
Hanging out with wise guys in Vegas, that was CCNY shady shite. I think UNLV players got paid by the local hustlers and then had to repay the debt. UNLV was a huge favorite over Duke.

I would not doubt that at all really. Shady AF. I was only saying if no holds barred, from 89s+ I'd take UNLV as my go-to. They could legit beat some NBA teams.

It wasn't a choke. It was them being totally overwhelmed by Baylor's speed and athleticism.
