No I don’t regret joining the Army at all. I realized I wasn’t that dedicated of a college student at LSU, immature.
During the height of OIF/OEF there was a 2-year commitment available. I chose the 2-year commitment as 21B.
2 years turned into 10 years of active duty and 2 deployments to Afghanistan. Survived both tours of route clearance operations in the Paktia, Kunar Province’s, and the Watapur District of NE Afghanistan.
Came back to LSU on the G.I. Bill as a 29 year old, graduated in 3.5 years with a EE degree, in which I was given a great deal of discipline from the Army and to finish something you initially started.
It was a great experience, and as you grow older you realize and reflect back on the reasons why you joined and I have zero regrets.

You can retire at 20 years in.
The only time I regretted being in the military was while I was in the suck. The only regret since I got out was leaving. I miss my brothers and the shite we used to pull. Frats have absolutely nothing on the military back in the day. The bond is stronger and we had way more fun.

4 years in the Air Force and I don’t regret nor do I think it was all that big a deal. Was just a job I had for four years.
Still think having to wear a hat everywhere was silly; a baseball cap at that, lol.
Oh! Almost forgot about carrying the Lackland lover around for one day shy of 7 weeks was hilarious.

I was in from 89-92. I thought it was too soft back then and I was a paratrooper. I couldn't imagine it now.
I do not regret a second of my service. That said, like everyone here, I don't want to see my son join.
Like it or not the US has a "warrior class". The same families serve generation after generation. My family is no different. I don't trust our leadership enough to risk my son's life. Some other family can take a turn.

I was 19k myself. It's hard to beat the experience of firing the main gun and coax 240 during table 8 qualification. The only job on a tank that kinda sucks is being the loader.
My first slot on her tank was as a loader. I took great pride on being able to load & arm the main gun in less than 3 seconds. I think my favorite job on the tank though was driver. It was fun as hell and you had the most comfortable seat in the tank.

I saw horrific things. I saw my friends blown up, burned, shot. Many finished themselves off after we got home. My mind and body are in constant pain. I feel like someone twice my age.
But never have I felt more alive then when rounds were flying in the palm groves and I had the privilege of knowing some of the greatest men this country has to offer. I can’t imagine my life without them. No regrets. Semper Fi.
But frick those who have destroyed this nation and the Corps. Would not serve today.

I regret joining the Army National Guard in the 80’s. If I could go back, I’d join the Air Force and take a good MOS, not military police.

4 years active USMC and 5 years in LAANG. Paid for college and had quite the adventure. No regrets.

18 years of active service to date and dont regret it.
I would not advise my son to join though.
Times are changing and Im not sure why we still field an army of tanks & brads.

Wouldn't take a million bucks to erase the experience of serving with my fellow Marines.
Would not take millions to do it again.

I am ashamed of what certain politicians and top brass are trying to do to do military, but I do not regret serving.

Three year break for Army ROTC. And a few years in the Army National Guard. The rest all Active Duty. For pay it will be 37 years. Truly blessed. Cannot believe it is coming to an end. I remember reporting for OSUT at Fort Benning like it was yesterday.

ETA: The ugly, skinny punk in that picture (still ugly, not as skinny, less of a punk) ended up here. Proves the Army can help anyone who wants to be helped.

It saved my life and then flipped the trajectory 10 fold after I got out. I wouldn't change it for the world

4th generation vet. Great experience and shaped me as a man.
It paid for my college and currently keeps my mortgage payments low

No. It was fricking awesome in the 80’s. I wouldn’t trade that experience anything in the world even if it delayed me for years getting to college. I feel like I lived my best years from an adventure standpoint during that period. Now, I think it’s turned into a fricking joke!

My time in the Navy are some of the best times of my life. Non military wouldn't understand this but the friends I made in the service were like brothers. There is a connection between military personal that non military will never have.
I personally feel that every American over 18 has to serve 2 years in the military. It would change this country and make it so much better.

I don’t regret it. It wasn’t the experience I thought it would be, very disappointing. I joined later(mid 20s) in 2007 and I think that was the beginning of the absurd non-mission related bullshite that was just getting started. I learned a great skill though, and came away with some useful life lessons.
Now, knowing what I know now, and seeing what it’s devolved into, would I join? Hell no.

I never regretted one day of the 30 years I served. Now that I’m retired, I wish I could go back on active duty.

8 years, Army. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I made lifelong friends.
