Do you regret joining the Military?

I hear people say that they regret the college major that they chose, but I don't tend to hear people say that they regret joining the military.
The chance of death is so much lower than historical, and can't you retire after like 25 years and be in your early 40s?
Those people who joined the military or had a career in the military do you regret it?

I only spent four years in the Navy but it has offered my family a pretty swell lifestyle. I grew up with very limited opportunities but joining the military is something that is still helping my family at age 36. Very fortunate to have that opportunity.

My great uncle post on Facebook every year on the anniversary of the day he was drafted for Vietnam. Calls it the “worst day of his life.” I get he was drafted and that’s different but not everyone is gung-ho about serving. Just ask Sturgill Simpson.

Probably was headed for prison if I hadn't went in...

I have enjoyed it and it provides a amazing life for my family. It’s different but if it suits you it’s great.
I will also say I enjoyed it before it became the social justice playground that it is now becoming. If I wasn’t close to retirement I would not continue.

Coworker of mine is in his 30s and was in the military a few years And now just has to go to some kind of training exercise stuff like once a month on weekends.
He gets his house, school, insurance, and who the frick knows what else paid for. Seems like a sweet gig

21 years here.
Don’t regret it. I get a pension every month and cheap health/dental care. No way I’d enlist today, though. Those last 4-5 years were awful with the sensitivity training nonsense.
The USG doesn’t deserve your service. Serve yourself & your family.

Spent 4 years in the Navy. Got out and earned my engineering degree using the GI Bill and part time jobs.
No regrets at all.

I'm glad I did it then and not now. I have Healthcare through the VA and learned valuable life lessons.

Don't regret my 6 years in the army. I would not recommend service in the military for any of my kids. The senior leadership has picked a side and can't be trusted.

I enjoyed my time in the Navy overall. I liked the people I was around every day and the traveling that I got to do. However, I despised big Navy's (Pentagon) decision making. The 'wokeness' bullshite infecting our military will be the end of it. I did occasionally regret my decision when I was still in the Navy. Now that I'm out, I wouldn't go back and change anything even if I could.

Did 8 years and had a blast. Made lifelong friends and saw parts of the world that I would have never seen had I not joined.
Like others are saying... wouldn't want to join now. I have friends still in and they say it's fricking ridiculous now.

There’s no way I’d join today. The SJW attitude has taken over. I remind my son often that I’d hate for him to join...go to school, get a decent job to learn, and start a business. That’s the path I’d like to see him take. Screw joining today’s military. I have a few friends and family still on active duty (Marines snd army). They all say that things are 10 times worse than when I retired. I wouldn’t last a week in this new military. I loved every minute of my time through retirement, but things have changed.
When my dad joined the Corps, his Corps was basically like my grandfather’s. My Corps was very much like my father’s...better really. General Gray did so much good during his time as commandant.
Greatest Commandant Ever
General Gray repaired most of the issues that came about during and post Vietnam.
Now, for the first time in three generations, today’s Corps isn’t really like mine, my father’s, or grandfather’s. Again, I’d absolutely hate it if my son joined. I no longer encourage anyone to join.

Joined the Army in 1981 right out of high school. Will retire this May.
Do not regret it in the least bit.

I enlisted at what I now know at the bottom-most point of the Vietnam-era Army...had a long career which eventually turned out extremely successful and when I hung up the green suit, I didn't look back...
Would I enlist today, not just no but HELL NEAUX in this woke environment...
Personally, I hope *President Biden needs to resort to conscription, and start drafting all the woke people

Best thing I ever did. Totally enjoyed it and made good friends. Still remember all the good times from Parris Island onward to Lejeune, to San Diego, to 29 stumps now 60 years later. I have been a thirty year member of an organization of present and former Marines who pretty much all feel the same way.

I was 19k myself. It's hard to beat the experience of firing the main gun and coax 240 during table 8 qualification. The only job on a tank that kinda sucks is being the loader.
