Guy (father) sounds like an a-hole that would probably only cause him more pain.
Your friend likely turned out better than he would have had he known the guy. He should let it go and enjoy his successful life without bringing unnecessary drama into it. The dad now knows what his name is and how to contact him, so if he changes his heart he can reach out to your friend.

He’s never going to get closure or an apology from this guy. Did he have a decent father figure in his life? His efforts would be better spent expressing gratitude to that guy. Or by having a strong relationship with his FIL.

Having a biological father who disappeared from my life when I was 7, I’d say to leave it alone. The guy is a complete stranger. It would only add unneeded drama to your life, imo.
