He contacted Richard Gill and asked if there was a way he could come back. Fact.

Either he knew he was in way over his head as an NFL coach and skipped town before eyerything imploded or there was a lot more to Alabama's offer than we know. Either way, we probably won't find out until Saban is long gone from coaching, if we ever do.
When the Alabama job first opened up, Saban's agent was all over it. The problem as my south Florida friends told me at the time was the Miami buy out. Miami wasn't going to let him go scot free even though he was rapidly wearing out his welcome there. So there was sort of a Mexican stand-off. Miami wanted their blood price and/or the Alabama side was balking at the price. No matter, time was running out so Alabama "agreed in principle" with Rich Rod. Nothing was signed. Somehow, magically the buy out problem was solved and Saban was available. Did someone come up with the money for the buy out or did Miami charitably give Saban up a free pass? At the time there were all sorts of rumors. Neither party is stranger to sleazy deals. So Alabama screwed Rich Rod over and grabbed Saban. A chicken-shite move but the right one for Bama in the long term.
All of that "Saban loves LSU" was nothing more than a smoke screen to try to calm the ire of the LSU fans. The fairy tale that he wanted to come back is nothing more than wishful thinking on the part of some LSU fans. Other than possibly, just barely possibly Auburn, LSU is the game Saban wants to win the most.

He knew he was way over his head as a NFL head coach after his first season. Had envoys float the possibility and it got a little attention. Started gaining some steam but each side felt they were doing the other a favor....then Alabama showed interest and was told thanks no thanks but became a bargaining chip to try to squeeze out some relief on bad business deals....pride kicked in, old grievances were renewed, things cooled down..looked like Rich Rod was going to Bama. He backed out and Bama opened back up and was desperate, fixing the business deals and the opportunity to be in the same division on a yearly basis. After the Arkansas tie in 07 Things heated back along with the Miles to Michigan talk. Then chaos ensues, LSU gets in the championship which shuts down Michigan and gives a certain person the backing to tell Saban GFY like he wanted to for years. In response, Alabama gets ESPN to have the narrative changed from gutsy Miles going for it five times on fourth down to quirky, goofy les only won with Sabans players...two birds with one stone. The rest is history.

I never saw or head of a delay of game penalty on a kickoff until Les.

That 2006 team should have been undefeated national champions but “two loss Les.”

QB screwed up because there were 14 people on defense. Why can’t y’all realize that?

The Wisconsin game at Lambeau, if I was the AD I would have fired his arse at halftime.

I knew it at his introductory press conference when I couldn't understand WTF he was saying. My jaw was on the floor.

That time Les tried to called timeout after a change of possession against Tennessee in 2005.

A-Rod went 0/5 w/ 4 ks.

Hired him over Petrino. Petrino was a butt but think we have a couple more NC with him. As it has turned out they are both on the same level!

He won a national championship. Where is the problem?

I could have won with Nick Sabans recruits.

Folks some of the best moments I have ever had watching sports came from a team coached by Les. I for one hate this for the guy. Also f*ck USA Today for life. I knew I couldn’t take in anymore watching him at Lambo. Unbelievable the game plan is the same shite. Pissed off afterwards I thought we actually could have won that game. Even with the ridiculous offensive game plan.
