Should Airbnb, VRBO, and others like that include hidden fees in their room prices?

I've been looking at different properties for a getaway around Easter and I'm finding a ton of nice and reasonable places. However, when you get to check out and see the owner fees, cleaning fees, etc it completely changes.
A few examples, place in Fort Walton is 170 a night, however, the owner fee is 125 and then a $30 cleaning fee a day.
Another in Panama is 128, however, the owner fee is only 75 but a 300 pet fee.
I know just venting but it seems that some of these "hidden" fees should just be included in their daily price.
I ended up just booking a Marriot with a kitchenette and a $50 pet fee as it was cheaper than a lot of the nicer options on Airbnb and VRBO.

We usually rent small houses, and most of the time you can contact the agency listing the rental (outside of vrbo) for a better deal. They often throw in bikes or chairs as well.
So scroll down and you’ll see Sandpiper Vacation Rentals.

Once we find a place available on vrbo, we just call up Sandpiper (or whoever) and act dumb...we’d like to rents a house on these dates, what do you have, are there any deals for that time...?
Check out those fees...I pulled this up randomly on vrbo, but have stayed in this exact house. Pretty funny when I looked at the photos better.

I was talking about this with a buddy last night, I want to say there's some proposed legislation coming that would mandate they include fees in the initial price. It definitely needs to change. Sick of finding what looks to be a good AirBnb deal and getting hit with a $150 cleaning fee for a 2-3 night stay.

Cleaning fees are bullshite. Maybe you could argue for them now with COVID and they’d have a leg to stand on, but in general it’s BS.

A lot of vrbo/airbnb properties if you scroll down are being rented through another company and not an individual. Once you see the name of the company do a quick Google search and book the property directly through them. You'll save hundreds (sometimes thousands in my case in breckenridge) by going this route. It's not always an option but it's a nice little hack I found.

It is frustrating looking for a house on VRBO or AirBnB.
You can have 2 houses both priced at $400/night. You go to book them for 5 nights and one is $2,400 and the other is $3,000.
If i'm telling you the dates i'm staying there, then just tell me the true average daily rate.

Cleaning fee is fine, somebody has to get it ready for the next tenent. A single charge when you leave is going to be the most equitable way to do it.
I don't understand why you're complaining about a pet fee. There's more risk in allowing a pet and more clean up work. I wouldn't even allow pets if I was a rental owner, not worth it.

It took federal regulation to do this with airline tickets... and that was nice for about a minute until they started unbundling services (bags, seat reservation, etc)

All those hidden fees are are a total crock of s***. Hotels.com does it too, you can find a $30 "resort fee" per night on top of your room nightly fee.
I think it's a way to get around the referral fees for sites like VRBO and hotels.com, which is asinine. Just build the fee into the room.
I actively avoid places with those hidden fees. It's sketchy and I don't like doing business that way.
