You going to take your whole home generator with you when you go camping, to a job site, or loan it to your mom

can someone enlighten me what the wonderment is vs buying any $600 generator and throwing it in the bed of a truck?

This isn't a time for common sense

7.2 kW of power,

Depends on what engine you have. Base models only do 2kW.

seems pretty gimmicky and impractical, unless it also comes with heated truck nuts

I can see it being handy for construction guys. It's a much better option than the outlets on say a Tacoma that only puts out 400 watt with the entire engine running at idle.

So these vehicles will now have to be sold as used. Could be decent deals on Ford trucks next month.

Yea I would like to see actual proof these are being loaned out. Mainly just a publicity stunt as most of Texas has power again.

Generally a 7k watt generator for $600 is going to be extremely loud and will be putting out some dirty power that can damage your electronics. A truck at idle is extremely quiet. This becomes especially important when you are running power to your house at night.

I suspect this generator will put out more consistent power with low thd. Frying electronics using a cheap generator will make that $700 upgrade seem like a bargain. Although the con is you could not loan out the generator or leave is at a camp.

Not to be a jackass but it's called an inverter and you can buy one on Amazon for about $100. But that is nice of them

I can't imagine what a 7.2kw draw does to a 12v truck battery

Harbor freight has inverters for under a hundred dollars. And if you need gas while the gas stations are shutdown, a syphon hose will supply all the gas you need from neighbors boat fuel tanks
