CA couldn't even connect LA and SF and that shitshow was a massive boondoggle.

High speed rail is a bureaucratic money pit...so of course corrupt democrats love it.

can see a solution for high speed rail between LA/SF, NE Corridor, or even NY to Chicago. The reality is that it’s mainly just going to be a regional solution. As long as jet fuel is cheap, the airlines aren’t going anywhere.
an improved Northeast Corridor is a sensible solution, maybe look at running as far south as Richmond.

It would be cheaper to give every light rail rider a Toyota Prius than to build/operate the light rail.

High speed rail doesn’t work in a country as big as ours. Maybe in the northeast for commuters and some bigger metros, but Americans in 2021 aren’t going to cross the country in a train in any large numbers.

Lol, will we still have the opportunity to witness robberies and self defecation? Because going 200+ mph while being robbed and seeing someone shite on themselves definitely sounds like the future I want.

The North East Corridor is the only place in the US where it makes sense.

It’s crony capitalism.
Someone is going to get rich at the taxpayers expense.

Isn’t that the only area that Amtrack actually owns (and profits off of)?
IIRC, Bezos and Buffet own most of the railroad lines nationwide at this point. I would imagine that those current lines would potentially be “re-designed” to accommodate these new high speed lines. If so, then the rich will get richer.

Back in the 90s, I thought by 2020, we'd have cool flying cars. Here in 2021, we're talking about damn trains

Just for your information, the Cato institute is not what I would call friendly to America First conservatism.
They're an outright enemy of Trumpism.
They are libertarian globalists that do everything they can to frick over the working poor and the middle class with unchecked and out of control immigration. They constantly antagonized the Trump Admin on a lot of policy items that was deemed to be too much help to the working class.
CATO who supports open borders had this going during the DC riots back in the summer.
