I have seen mountain lion tracks in West Texas and Nebraska but never an actual, wild cougar. I have not seen any tracks in Louisiana but have spoken with several people who allege to have seen pumas here.

Anyone have any authentic trail camera pictures or verified sightings of mountain lions in Louisiana?

This is no bullshite, my dad and I saw one on Bayou Pierre WMA about 5 years ago. There was no doubt. I called it in to Wildlife and Fisheries. It was not black though.

I thought there had been verified game camera photos of mountain lions in LA.

There have been a few in the last 4 to 5 years. Could probably still find a few of the news releases on the LDWF website.

I saw one 15 years or more ago in northeast Louisiana. Got a good, long look.

Ii believe i saw one in Carencro 11 years ago. Was pulling out of my father in law’s drive way and saw a big cat jump from one side of ditch to the other side of the road. Wife saw it too but didn’t know what it was. Went to tell my FIL the next day and he said the neighbor had told him that the chickens were going wild before we left. Never saw it again.

Me and a group of friends saw one coming out of a tree one night. We were riding 4 wheelers and heard all kinds of commotion in a tree close by. We hit the tree with a Q beam and there it was, bear hugging a tree coming down. It looked at us for a few seconds then jumped and hauled arse. This occurred by the red river across from Boyce back around 2006-2008. I can’t remember the exact year but there was about 5-6 of us that saw it and there was no doubt about what it was.

Old timers from where I grew up speak of seeing them when they were younger. They believed they were traveling from as far as New Mexico to Florida only to breed. So they never hung around the area but only pass through.

Every woman on the What Went Under Toledo Bend page on Facebook has seen a black one.

Serious question: How does a cougar from the West get across the Mississippi River?

They killed one in Bossier City in 2008. Seems like a pretty verifiable siting...

That's a desperate animal to travel that far, though likely not out of the question.

Saw one on Swan Lake Road in North Bossier decades ago. Used to be fairly common sightings in that area.

I wish we had mountain lions. Maybe they could thin out the hogs.
