McCraigbro is the poster who made the thread
He’s never said before “we should never play the anthem before a game”

Ahh, here’s where we pretend and deflect and act like a major sporting event, with thousands of fans, millions of viewers, generations of fandom and billions of dollars is the same thing average Joe going to his day job, or going to the movies.

I would have responded earlier, but I was busy singing the national anthem.

Why is viewership and crowd size relevant?

If I watch a live stream with 50,000 other people, should we stop and sing the anthem?

Should we have played the anthem before the Seinfeld finale?

Whether you agree with the Civil War and no matter if you fought for the cause for the north or south, you really don't understand what those people stood for and what causes they were fighting for. Is it really necessary to rewrite history and have these anthem discussions for people who fought for their cause. No one today lived in those eras except for those still alive from WW2. People are more concerned with discrediting everything these people did in creating this country once they assumed control from the British. Were mistakes made, no question. Did the people making those mistakes give a damn that 100/200 years later they would still be causing such an uproar. A lot of people today need some reality checks on what those people went through in early America. Was slavery wrong, most certainly. Those people still fought for what they believed in and did far more for this country than anyone who tears down a statue will ever do!

The problem is society can't seem to grasp how ignorant it is to judge people from 150+ years ago based on ideals and standards of 2021. Society and humanity changes with each generation, and what is viewed as abhorrent now may not have been then. Joe Rogan had Douglas Murray, a British political commentator, on his show several months ago talking about this. He poked fun at how ridiculous Americans are with tearing down monuments of historical figures that helped build this country. He joked about how young this country was and how much more barbaric Europe was centuries ago before America was America, and none of them are trying to erase their history because men who may be viewed as bad now weren't back then and still accomplished very great and important things. Not shockingly, youtube has since pulled that episode from Joe Rogan's catalog too

Yes, slavery was bad. Yes, discrimination based on race, color, creed, religion, etc is bad. A lot of things that used to be commonplace we now understand are bad. However, people are simply products of their environment and the era in which they were raised. Things that were widely held ideals and societal standards shouldn't be used to crucify people of that generation. If we start going down that road, we will effectively end up needing to "cancel" prior historical figures with each passing generation as ideals and societal norms/beliefs change as I'm sure eventually there are things we believe right now will end up being viewed as barbaric hundreds of years from now. It's just an absurd self-defeating idea.

I think the financial bubble on sports in general is going to burst in the not too distant future. I don't think any of it is sustainable. People have already lost interest sports-wide since the initial shutdown and I do wonder how long it will take to get people back even when things are back to normal. I think a lot of people have decided that sports aren't all the important in the grand scheme and have found other avenues of entertainment. And I do worry about the short-term financial consequences if things don't get back to normal quickly. The entertainment industry as a whole is built on financial models that can't afford to keep going on like they are with no or limited people at live events much longer. And this includes not only sports but also music, film, etc.

Nobody said this. They said it wasn't about disrespecting the troops since that was one of the main criticisms.

Damn, you are triggered. Why does the singing of the anthem pregame bother you so much? It doesn’t make sense to you, I get it. It DOES make sense to plenty of other people. If the anthem doesn’t hurt you, then why are you bothered?? (The last part of the logic that typically gets tossed around by ‘you all’)

Maybe this was a little more coherent in your head?

Like 6 months. I’m not sure any franchise can afford to go another whole season like the last year. With these ever growing massive player contracts, I don’t see how they can keep going much longer like this. And I honestly feel for the non-marquee musicians and comics who rely on a steady number of live gigs to support themselves. Film industry may just restructure with the advent of streaming. May hit them hard in the short term but may balance out eventually.

maybe we should try to predict them now so 100 years from now we’re not trying to change them because we already did

The soy boys and BLM terrorists in Dallas itself will applaud this, but the rest of Texas is not gonna tolerate this.

They're gonna back peddle soon, start playing that silly "black anthem" as well as a compromise.

My prediction post yesterday, happened even faster than I thought.

The people who hate America have almost always tried to hide it but are getting much more bold these days. The take their mask off a lot more these days and realize how out of touch they are.

Regardless, I stand by my other prediction as well. They're going to add playing that stupid fake black anthem or whatever soon. Separate national anthems today, maybe water fountains tomorrow?
