I use my ruger wrangler for trapping. Shoots great and won’t get mad for scratching it. Under 200$ out the door too

I have a Phoenix hp22 that I paid 120 for just to see how it shot. Was literally going to be a throw away purchase.
I have 500 rds through. ZERO failures except for not ejecting rat shot (with the blue cover), which is to be expected.
It will run any ammo. Pretty accurate as well. Stays in my backpack. Love the thing. Good gun even if it's just to abuse.

It’s the same size as the shield and it’s a great little gun. I use mine quite with a silencer often dispatching raccoons that I’ve trapped. I live in a neighborhood and no one knows that I’ve done anything with a gun.
Not really a consideration where I'll use it, but that would be cool to have.

The under $200 for it or the Rough Rider is tempting considering how little I'll probably use it.

Have one of those GSG 22's. It's cheap and needs some polishing for feed issues but has a threaded barrel if you want to put a can on it. Usually run bulk ammo through it.

My favorite pistol is a Ruger Mark II 75th year edition.
That said, I'd buy that Ruger Wrangler in a heartbeat and probably will. Always was a fan of the Bearcat.

Rough rider is a good shooter, it's just not handy in any sense of the word. Depends on needs I guess

Aren't the Single Sixes really up there in price now?
Brand new would be out of your proposed budget, but a used one would prolly fit. If you want to shoot a 22 Mag cylinder, the Single Six will prob be your best bet for a quality gun. From what I've read, quality control seems to be spotty w/ Heritage. One of my friends has one and it spits lead in his face every time he shoots a round.

How's the reliability of this gun? Are you running the lighter spring that is supposed to come with it? Polish feed ramp?

Plus 1 for the M & P Shield 22 recommendation. I bought one for my wife (no pics) because she didn't like shooting the 9mm version I own. I've put about 1000 rounds through it with no issues. Its very light and easy to rack.

Why are the magazines so low capacity for the .22 handguns I’ve seen?
Makes no sense to me for a .22 the same barrel length as a 9mm to have a lower capacity when the rounds are so much smaller.

They have to be vertical single stack and rimmed cases require a lot of angle to the magazine to be reliable. Sucks up lots of grip space.

Should be. silenced .22s are the best .22s

I have never heard someone who has bought this gun not like it. Awesome gun.

We got my dad a heritage for around $130 or so a few years ago for Father's day, and by all accounts it's a pretty damn nice gun. Fit and finish exceeded our expectations. Shoots great also.

No love for the Taurus 22? I was leaning towards it but now reading this thread maybe I should be looking at the Beretta or smith and wesson.

PPQ 22. Comparable ergos to a full size gun, eats everything, runs great suppressed

I’m no handgun expert by any means, but I picked up a S&W22 Victory last year and I’ve been happy with it. I usually keep it in my pack for ptarmigan or spruce hens.
