Take your vitamin D, folks.
quote:
Recent meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have demonstrated significant reduction of cancer mortality by vitamin D supplementation. We estimated costs and savings for preventing cancer deaths by vitamin D supplementation of the population aged 50+ years in Germany. Our analysis is based on national data on cancer mortality in 2016. The number of preventable cancer deaths was estimated by multiplying cancer deaths above age 50 with the estimated proportionate reduction of cancer mortality derived by vitamin D supplementation according to meta-analyses of RCTs (13%). Saved costs were estimated by multiplying this number by estimated end-of-life cancer care costs (€40,000). Annual costs of vitamin D supplementation were estimated at 25€ per person above age 50. Comprehensive sensitivity analyses were conducted. In the main analysis, vitamin D supplementation was estimated to prevent almost 30,000 cancer deaths per year at approximate costs of €900 million and savings of €1.154 billion, suggesting net savings of €254 million. Our results support promotion of supplementation of vitamin D among older adults as a cost saving approach to substantially reduce cancer mortality.

I'm in the sun as much as possible, especially during the winter.

It also helps with Kung Flu which is why shutting down and forcing everyone inside was the worst possible decision anyone could have made.

I think my wife is trying to kill me because she doesn't even have me on any supplements.

Couldn't go to the beach in April but the WalMart was fair game.

Good luck with the skin cancer.

Just started taking it last week per my Dr.’s orders. I’m already feeling a lot better as the Jan-Mar slog here in the Pacific Northwest can get brutal.

5000 IU a day. I don't know if it's helped but it's cheap and doesn't seem to have any negative effects at that level.

this is completely anecdotal, but during Christmas, my family was all together
my BIL tested positive for COVID the next day
my sister and her family, and my brother and his family, all got COVID and symptoms (both my sister and SIL had to go to the emergency room)
my family (wife and kids) and my parents never showed symptoms enough to get tested
my family and my parents take vD (and zinc) and my siblings families do not
thought that was interesting

That's why you don't go out and nuke yourself in the sun. I try to get about 20 minutes with no sun block sitting outside by my pool about once or twice a week. I also take a Vit D supplement but I think the best way to get Vit D is through sunlight absorption.

It's insanity. Our 'leadership' has been atrocious.

Except during the summer months, the skin makes little if any vitamin D from the sun at latitudes above 37 degrees north
