5,000 IU is generally the recommended dosage

but I think for best absorption, you are supposed to take it throughout the day, meaning like 2,000 IU 3x a day or something

also fat soluble so should be taken with food.

My Dr. wanted me on a 1000 units. But mine was borderline and just below nominal.
