Fredericksburg, TX: Open for business? Recommendations?

I'm considering an Easter Weekend getaway in Fredericksburg Tx to get some R&R and wine tasting. Has anyone been there recently? Are things open? Any good recommendations?

Things are open at reduced capacity so get reservations if you can. I would imagine Easter will be a cluster. I'll be there middle of March.

I'm here right now. Mostly open, tons of people here.

Thanks for the info! Have any recommended wine tours?

Stay at Hoffman Haus if you can. Go eat at Ottos.

Was there last weekend. The most normal feeling weekend in a long time. Very few mask even on the streets. Nobody cared if you walked into the stores without mask. It was super crowded. Luckenbach was beyond packed. Probably had 200 folks there. Every winery parking lot was so full you could not find a parking spot.

This. Get reservations for tastings or you will be buying a bottle and sitting off somewhere. William Chris and Grape Creek will definitely need reservations as well as any of the restaurants where you'd like to dine. They've all been requiring reservations for a while.

My favorite wines are here. The view is gorgeous. They have tastings and food pairings. Or you can just buy a bottle and enjoy the view. Very hill country feel.
Grape Creek - my 2nd favorite. Restaurant is very expensive and I'd skip it. You'll probably need reservations for a tasting. They also have a fun tour where you see the barrel room and taste some wine there. They tell you about the whole wine making process. You end with a tasting and need reservations. It's got more of a European vineyard vibe. Very pretty.
Fat arse - Cheaper, kitschy, party, but can be fun. Fruit flavored and sweeter wines. They merch is kind of cute, but a little tacky.
There are MANY other wineries. A lot have so so wine or sweet wines. Hilmy is pretty good. I'm sure a few others are. Becker is a very large place and very popular, especially with the tour groups, bachelorette parties, etc. They have some decent wines.
William Chris and Grape Creek have some really good wines.

I've been looking into Fredericksburg and this was my concern so I'm glad you said it. A lot of wines I've had from non-traditional wine areas are sweet or just not very good to me, so I wasn't sure if that was also the case in Texas.

Baron's Creek is also pretty good. They have a wide variety, not just sweet wines...and they're better than so-so.
If you think Grape Creek is good, then you should love Baron's.

a lot of the places buy their grapes from california and dont grow very much of their own
if you can catch becker in the lavender season april-may it is quite lovely. lavender fest in early may.
thats why william chris gets high marks they actually grow their own grapes. temparnillo and dark reds mostly.
becker is touristy but still lets you bring your picnic basket with you and camp out under an oak tree

Thanks for the great tips!! I booked the first weekend of April for my first trip to Fredericksburg.
It seems like it's worth the premium to rent within walking distance to main street here?
Thanks for the tips on reservations for tastings and restaurants too!

Absolutely. I like the Fburg inn and suites but have stayed at the super 8 and it isn’t what you picture a super 8. It is doable for a night or two and I am a hotel snob.
Do not drive drunk on Main Street after dark. I have literally seen the pd pull over every car on the road. I’m not even exaggerating. The locals will tell you not to walk around super late, but I have never been harassed and been drunker than shite at like 1am walking down main.
If you are trying to go out stay close. If that isn’t a thing for you get a bed and breakfast
The nighttime crowd can be a scene

Lady Bird is a fun little muny out there. It was designed by the same guy who did Bluebonnet on the east side which is usually decent.

This is what we usually do. We get a nice B&B that's a little out with a firepit or nice outdoor seating and view. We usually buy bottles from the wineries we have visited and bring ourselves stuff to make a nice charcuterie board. (Stop at HEB in Boerne) Sometimes we go to dinner in Fredericksburg and sometimes we grill or prepare something ourselves because we enjoy cooking. We usually only have a few drinks at dinner or a glass or 2 of wine. We go hang by the firepit with our charcuterie and enjoy our bottles at the B&B. Cheaper, relaxing, socially distanced, and we just don't have to be around that many people and like hanging out alone.
