Cameron Street in Lafayette is more depressing than Johnson. Still 1000x better than Florida.

No comparison here. Florida is an absolute ghetto shite hole. A more apt comparison would be Florida and Evangeline Thruway.

Recently the Broadmoor Shopping center is showing bright signs of some life. There is a Hi Nabor that is usually packed next to a Planet Fitness. Chase just built a new bank in the shopping center. McDonald's has relocateded there too. A new Tire Kingdom is almost finished and a medical business has opened. Broadmoor is rocking again and when Amazon rebuilds Cortana it will only get better. True, between Sherwood Forest and the Amite River needs a helping hand. But there exist some stable businesses there. All Star has a corporate office there, Miller's RV, Enterprise Rent a Car and Wholesale Granite are solid.

Not really. Some businesses on Johnston have closed and been replaced by others. Things like Cal's Western Store closed before the pandemic, and stalwarts like Don's and Alesi's are still going strong.

The aquarium store guy closed recently because of covid, but I think that business was just a front anyway.

Some good some bad. Grand Cinema station is still there. Not sure how are they still open if they are. Used to rent some movies there. Then across the street there’s a tall vacant building that used to be a bank. Further east, the Chase near Sherwood and Florida has closed. A lot of small used car dealerships. As you said the granite place which is good place to get your countertop. Vinh Phat is struggling. More empty buildings across the street, but some are still in business but I hardly see customers in those places. Florida Blvd reminds you of a neglected house...it’s worn down and ugly but it’s still there standing.

That will never improve. Way too many low end apartments just a block north of Florida between Sherwood and Flannery.

You want to depressing go to Capitol St in Jxn MS.

Supposed to be the main street of the entire state. I was there a few months ago. At least half the buildings are boarded up. Probably more. That includes hotels like the Radisson

Florida Blvd is a paradise by comparison.

Eh. I don’t think it’s all that depressing. You have the stuff around Camellia, old academy that’s gone but everything else seems fairly normal?

Yeah. That’s about the only area like that on Johnston and that shopping center has been like that for a while . The car wash on that corner prints money- it’s always packed

I don’t really see that anywhere else on Johnston south of downtown

For frick sake...we’ve gone from comparing the worst cities in La to the worst streets now?!!!
I’m in Lafayette frequently & I don’t find South Johnston that depressing at all.
Better comparison to Florida St is Jewella or Mansfield roads in SHV south of i20. Now that’s depressing.

Cameron St would be a better comparison to Florida Blvd than Johnston St.

Florida Blvd (if this is a stat) probably a top 10 revenue generating street in Louisiana... if that makes sense

You will never go hungry on Johnson Street. Ether are quite a few good places to eat.

Broadmoor isn't what it was in the 80s, but the neighborhood isn't terrible.

When I was at LSU (late '80s) I went to somebody's house in Broadmoor. I thought it was Beverly Hills
