If you were a sought after DC candidate why or why not would you choose LSU in 2021?

Forget you are a Tiger Fan, for a moment and try to be objective. You get the call, you have the interview maybe, you know the salary, but there are other opportunities

What are my other opportunities?

Because O is on a short leash and has a history of firing coordinators after a year.
Even if you’re a success, he’ll throw you under the bus when you leave like he did with Aranda.

All the ones that were open when we started our search and any since then.

You have to think that having a say, a big say, in the DL and LB coaches would be a big draw.
The secret to success, other than having talented players, is your position coaches. Not the head coach. And that includes recruiting; those position coaches are going have a huge effect there also.
At the end of the day it is a group effort, on the field and on the recruiting trail and having 2 or 3 of your own guys there with you is going to be a huge factor in success/fail.
CFB is littered with coaches, some good and some average, who were "handcuffed" by the people around them. Sometimes they rise to the top later.

Assuming the pay was comparable I would choose to work for an intelligent coach like Payton, Kelly, Sarkisian, etc., versus and idiot like O with a history of meddling with his coordinators and marching down the hall beating a drum while I was working on this week's game plan.
But that's just me.

Because LSU isn't a stepping stone program
Posted on 1/24/21 at 6:52 pm to 756
Not a chance in hell I would voluntarily choose to hitch my wagon to Ed Orgeron lmao
Posted on 1/24/21 at 6:54 pm to 756
Why: It's LSU. A great program.
Why not: The unknown. Most fans don't bring it up or play it down, but the NCAA and a Title IX investigations are in progress. Plus the Ed Orgeron thing.

He messed up the pelini hire and now he is in this position.
Odom turns him down
Then he gets freeman for an interview.
Nielsen is coming. All that is fine.
It's everything that has happened after. There are still good dc candidates out there.
Why can't they contact and interview them?

I'm still not buying the Jones line. I'm sure we interviewed him; that was what, 30 hours ago? But the interviews continue. They're working a list.

Short leash? He only won a national championship in 2019 with the greatest college football team ever in history. Then 20 of those players left for the NFL and then a host of returning juniors opted out for the 2020 season, and you claim he is on a short list?
Obviously, you are more than just a little unhinged and who is going to pay for his 20 million dollar buyout so he can play golf everyday? You.
Do me a favor, go fly a kite.

If we're being honest here I wouldn't wanna work for O . I like the guy fine but in this hypothetical I'm not sure I want him as my boss.

Why not: the results of a Title IX investigation, dont know how much control over DL and LB hirings, O's history of micromanaging
Why: at least 1.5 million reasons, possible control in DL and LB hirings, talented roster

You guys assume, all coaches feel the same about Coach O like you do. I would bet, a lot of Coaches respect him way more than you think. Could it possibly be, it's just "LSU"?... I mean, there wasn't a shitload of coaches lined up for the HC job when Miles was fired. 2 top coaches, turned us down. Jimbo for fricking aTm, and Herman for Texas. So it could be just LSU in general. But sure, keep bashing O, for whatever reason. ::shugs shoulder::

An ex-Auburn HC Gene Chizik ring a bell?

Because Orgeron went from hero to goat in less than a year and his job security is in doubt.

T-boy is running the search. He is making all the calls. O doesnt make a call.
Impending Title IX stuff down the road, a coach who let's a radio personality be the face of the program, and meddling and firing Canada in 1 yr, then taking cheap shot after cheap shot at Aranda all season when the D was horrific. Then firing Pelini in a year.
O screws up this hire he is done for. Looks his OC never was OV before taking a chance there. He needs a bonfire top D coordinator
