The Whole "Nielsen Drama" is 1 of 2 Things-1 is Good, 1 is Bad

Its been said on this board that "O's boy" Nielsen was always his #1 choice, maybe 1a/1b with Freeman. Nielsen & O have a close relationship, I find it hard to believe that, outside of formal interviews, which were not allowed as long as the Saints were still in season, SURELY one has to believe that O had contacted Nielsen before Sunday after the Saints loss. I understand there was some push to conduct a more "active" approach to this hire than O has taken in the past by just hiring people without even meeting them face to face or conducting an interview, Canada/Pelini. So Freeman was interviewed & offered & then Arnett was interviewed & told to go kick rocks; opening the door for O to make the move to Nielsen. Which means one of two things, LSU/Woodward/O did not do their due diligence by turning over every stone, ie. going over his current contract & preparing for what it would take to get him to LSU, before going all in OR all of this drama is nothing more than the media & fanbase stirring up a story all the while, LSU has known about this "clause" & the only issue before it can be made official is how LSU will compensate the Saints to get Nielsen &/or contract verbiage that affects Nielsen's future NFL opportunities.
I sure hope it is the latter because if Woodward & O didn't do their homework before going this public & deep into this, then that is a huge warning sign, along with O's other hiring fiascos, that this administration can't be trusted to make/close on the big time hires that a program needs if it is expected to compete with the big boys.

That is a super wall of text for this early in the morning. Paragraphs are your friend.

Not how it works broseph.
His contract isn’t LSU’s problem, it’s his problem. He isn’t going to make a copy available during the negotiation period. His agent would say if there are any contractual issues - obviously he said there were not.
They talked on the phone, maybe some zoom calls. Agents met, discussed salaries. Saints ended and a formal request to interview was made.
Then, what is normally a formality (releasing an assistant for a promotion) became an issue with the Saints.
This will get worked out, but this is not on LSU.

Correct, this has nothing to do with LSU.

I hope that Orgeron did the right thing and informed Payton of his intentions prior to "hiring" Nielson. If he did not, then I understand Payton's anger.

Screw Payton and the saints.

I’m amazed that so many people think it’s LSU’s responsibility to review his current NFL contract.

Haha. Since when are their manners in the coaching carousel?

We’ve known of O’s intentions for 2 weeks now. You don’t think Sean Payton saw this coming?!?!

dude...get back to building scaffolding and get off your phone. Thats not how any of this works, let people that deal with contracts handle it and stop giving dumbass opinions about things you have no idea about.
How the hell would you think in any fricking world that Nielsen and his agent would give up leverage and allow LSU to review his contract? When you interview do you bring a copy of your pay stub to the interview for them to review?

For as much as Louisiana's tax payers cough up to keep the Saints here this is a serious slap in the face.
Posted on 1/19/21 at 8:31 am to Gee Grenouille
Don't the Saints have an obligation to those same taxpayers to field a competitive team? The Saints organization doesn't owe LSU anything.

You could have smeared shite on your screen and posted the picture and it would have made more sense than that incoherent blob of text.

LSU should continue the DC interview / search process.

Nothing wrong with a paragraph every now and then. Just saying
