It was obvious that he didn’t have it. Hell it’s been obvious that he didn’t have it all year! I’m appreciative of all that Brees has done for this team , but we are one game away from going to the Super Bowl. Winston should have been played since he can actually throw the ball downfield, but here in 2020/2021 it’s all about feelings so Payton collapsed at a time when he should have stood up and done what’s right for this team. Thank you Brees for all that you have done for this organization!

Sean was gonna go down with the Drew ship. Just the way it is. We can now look forward to a new young QB and a more explosive offense in the future. We are free.

I actually agree. We had to run a trick play with our backup QB to push it downfield. At that point it should be obvious. This isn’t a feel good hallmark movie. It’s a business and it’s worth millions. He didn’t have it and it was obvious

Brees should have retired last year. Fact.

His legacy and reputation would have been preserved.

That’s exactly how this whole game felt . It sucks! A winning coach does what’s best for the team not the player no matter who it is. Look at how Saban flipped QB’s twice in National Championships because the starter didn’t have it. He did it with Hurts as the starter , and Tua came in and won it . Then he took Tua out because he didn’t have it that night , and Hurts won it. A coach should put his team in the best position to win no matter what.

Neither of those players had played 15 years for Bama. You don’t bench your legendary QB. He’s earned the right to go out on his own terms.

I agree...it's about winning for a chance to go to the Super Bowl, not emotional ties to Brees!
Brees lines up 5 yards deep from center, drops back another 5 yards once he gets the ball, then throws 2 or 3 yards beyond the line of scrimmage most of the time lately. He's clearly been struggling to get the ball downfield in a meaningful way but we rode him to a loss that ended our season. Thanks Brees, for the years you amazed us.

for fricking who?

We were moving the ball just fine up a score until the Cook fumble and the entire team lost momentum after that(including defense).

It's all over but the crying now, for the Saints and their fans.

This is one of the most pathetic sports stories in all of NFL history - The Payton-Brees Era of Playoff Failure.

It's etched in stone now, sports fans - etched in stone.

This game will be forgotten within a few months. Benching Drew Brees in the final game of his career in the playoffs against Brady would never be forgotten, and not in a good way.

so a 2nd round playoff game is more about giving respect to your QB than winning the game? in what world is that logical?

more people are going to remember the end of Brees' career and hanging on too long and the playoff failure than the good parts of his career

he's not Brady or Manning and doesn't have that kind of media/public perception. Manning also went out a winner (ironically as a shittier QB) and Brady is not done yet and just beat Brees (for the easiest shitty headline cap in future discussions)

This right here is the epitome of what’s wrong in society today. You’re more worried about hurting someone’s feelings than doing what’s best for the team. I love Brees, but if he couldn’t get the job done then Winston should have been put in to give this team a chance to move forward and get the win. The Bucs knew that Brees couldn’t throw downfield and they stacked the box waiting for the 3 yard screen pass . Hell every time he threw it there were 3 Bucs waiting to shut it down. frick everyone’s “feelings” including Brees. You play to win !

Trick plays like that are the sign offense is dead or defense has your number. But it's Drew Brees. Possible he was injured?

Maybe the guy they called on when they need a pass to travel more than 15 yards down field?

In what world is it logical to bench Brees at halftime of a tie game? He took the lead on the 1st possession of the 2nd half and was about to extend the lead until Cook fumbled.
