It’s true though. NASA hasn’t really tried or proposed anything new since the space shuttle in the 80s. Everything is a retread of the same goals, using base designs of what was done with previous goals.

Hate on Elon, but in a decade he had both theorized, and done, more to advance rocketry than anyone else since the space race.

And he did it using an privately owned enterprise.

But he also runs Tesla, so the O&G baws on here gets their panties in a bunch at mere meation of him.

I’ve worked plenty of contracts for NASA on the ISS and SLS side. Lot of very intelligent engineers but as an entity they are subject to analysis paralysis like no other entity I’ve ever seen. Currently they are glorified managers of the contractors that do all of the heavy lifting and actually produce results.

I wasn’t around in the 60s, but it seems a far cry from what it once was.

I agree with you guys that the future of space travel is going to be private industry leading the way and not government entities and their contractors.

That's because Obama slashed their budgets. It's not a coincidence that these last 4 years have been some of the most productive at NASA since the Space Shuttle days.

And sorry to get political ITT, but it's true. NASA administrators loved Trump.
