If I recall correctly, she also kind of resented the role in the sense that she thought she was a much better actress than the role called for. I guess the rest of Hollywood disagreed with her..

Gilligan's Island Trivia that i don't have to look up:
the flag in the opening credits is at half mast b/c of JFK assassination.
Lovey lied about her age, and was something like 12 or 13 years older than what everyone thought she was. No one knew until well after the show ended.
I have a copy of the real first episode, with a different Professor, and two girls who are secretaries (not Ginger and Mary-Ann)

I believe it was something with royalties. I don't think any of them made much money when it aired originally from their original contracts, then it became a huge success in syndication and none of them made a lick of money on that. I believe that's why she never agreed to do the movies and other things after the fact.
