budget would be $650k.

A quick search on Zillow reveals many places within or just beyond this budget.

My one time in DC was for a Cubs / Nationals series the year they opened up their new stadium....probably 12 years ago. Got blacked out after, went home with a smokeshow to her place. After she wanted to go out late night so I got to go catch up with my friends

Rode the metro, had no idea where I was going, but it was quite nice.

Picture of her, just for fun. I think it's a quite old picture at this point, but it's what she looked like.

I have cousins who live there, they live in Pentagon City right off of a metro stop. I’ve visited them and it’s a convenient location, even for downtown.

Where in DC will you be working? Got to look at what your transit options are. I took the MARC rail from Point of Rocks to Union Station and Red/Yellow Metro to/from the Pentagon for years...not sure how the monthly Metro passes work these days...

the thing I learned is if you can live close to a Metro hole/train station, that's the way to go, but you have to look at which train you need to take if you can...and which Metro stop is closest to your office...

if your job is within walking distance of Union Station, you've pretty much hit the lottery as far as transit options are concerned...

She was fun for the 3 or so hours I knew her. Shocker, she works in politics.

First year there I lived in Arlington in the Clarendon area. Right of the orange line. Commuted to the Capitol building every day. Beautiful area to live. After that, I lived in Navy Yard. That area has developed a lot since I left but it’s a great location. What’s your monthly budget for rent

My wife is from the area, Takoma Park, MD. My $.02 from someone who visits a couple times a year and who has never actually lived there, I'd see if you could find something in the Dupont Circle or Adam's Morgan neighborhoods. Pay too much the first year or so, get the full experience, and then look to move out to the burbs. We have friends in the various burbs of NOVA and every time we visit them I think to myself that I'm glad we live where we do. Totally different lifestyle where commuting is a dominant theme in everyone's life.

Fairfax county schools are extremely diverse. Arguably some of the most in the entire country

Is 650k not enough to buy a normal house in the DC metro?
you can get a nice house for 650k in most parts of Fairfax County, and basically all of Prince William

Navy Yard, Cap Hill, or Logan Circle (ideal) if you want to live the city life. I'm your age and lived in Courthouse and just moved out of there after a great 10 year run. I will never move back. You aren't going to get the real DC experience in 2021 anyway with the way that city is run currently. I'd highly recommend Rosslyn or Courthouse and renting for now. There are some GREAT deals going on. Like someone else said, so many people are moving away from Arlington/DC right now. Living in Courthouse/Rosslyn is going to be more your age group and you have the metro to head into D.C. If you go with Rosslyn, you can walk over to Georgetown with ease. You'll have your Whole Foods, Trader Joes, etc. in Courthouse/Clarendon and plenty of bars/restaurants. Clarendon is going to be overrun with that 18-26 yo crowd on the weekends, but other than that it's a nice area. Ballston is growing a ton too and a lot of people are moving there. All are metro accessible.

and for the 2019-20 school year

Asian: 15%
Black: 11.5%
Hispanic: 17.5%
White: 48%

That's pretty diverse imo
