These were my goals from 2020:

Break par on 9 holes
Lower handicap to less than a 3
Qualify for the State Am and make the cut
Walk more holes than I ride
Play, on average, 9 holes a week
Practice once a week
Do a better job of focusing on every shot for every round (that's nebulous, but it's the best way I can describe it)

Don't think I broke par for 9 holes this year, but got close. Still not a sub 3 handicap. There was no qualifying for the State Am, but I did play in it, but didn't make the cut. I think after COVID, I definitely walked more than I rode and probably played an average of 9 holes a week, with a bulk of those being 18 hole rounds or multiple 9 hole rounds during COVID. I practiced a good bit during COVID and this summer, but this fall hasn't been as easy.

Looking to 2021, here are the updated goals:

Sub 3 Handicap
Enjoy golf and try to enjoy every round
Better course management
Get in a little better shape
Don't give up on rounds and grind them to the finish
Finish a round without a 6 or worse
Break Par

What do y'all have for 2021 goals?

From this summer:

quote:

I didn't have an actual goal this year in terms of stats. I know I wanted to improve my chipping which I've done. And when I played in the state am, I set some goals for round 2 which I hit: multiple birdies, break 78.

Next year I need to work on my in-round focus. Sometimes I don't adhere to a routine or over correct after I've hit a bad shot. I think that will lead to my ultimate goal of becoming a scratch. It's really, REALLY hard to break that barrier. I've been hovering around a 1.8-5.5 the last two years.

ETA: I’ll add the following

- Play more rounds with my son especially just the two of us
- keep multiple sub 70 rounds on my ghin (last 20)
- keep the set mostly the same. I may need a new hybrid or wedges at some point.
- break 1.0 hdcp

1. Better course management. I tend to compound mistakes.

2. Take a lesson from MileHighDraw

3. Play at least twice a week.

You’re around a 3 handicap and have never broken even on 9 holes?

Somehow i don’t believe you’re a true 3 handicap

2021:

1. To aim at a target and be confident before every shot.
2. To work on short game more.
3. To develop a simple swing.
4. To not get upset, disappointed, or angry about golf.
5. To remember to celebrate good shots, regardless of result.

Honestly, I don’t know if it gets better than this year for me. I’ve been playing golf for 25 years (sophomore year at LSU) and my 3 best rounds were in 2020. Shot 70 (-2) in February, 67 (-3) in May and 72 (E) in August on 3 different courses this year. My previous best was 75 (+3) a dozen years ago.

I’d love to shoot more rounds like that in 2021, but I’m just going to enjoy playing as often as I possibly can.

2021 goal will probably be to get properly fitted for every club in the bag.

I just started playing seriously in June. Used to mess around a bit as a kid but quit for about 10 years. Will be my second full season so goals are modest.

Make cleaner contact, lose fewer balls, play more, and have fun. Will mainly focus on improving short game.

Drink more beer when I play. Have fun. Laugh at mistakes. It’s a hobby, not a job.

Broaden this one to be more fitness-oriented in general for me.

Mine would be:
Play a round without losing a ball
Get stroke average from 50 - 85 below 2.9 and from 85 - 120 yards below 3.1.

I’ve spent the last few years getting my swing back to where it was when I was in my late teens/early 20’s. I’ve got the power and then some back and the ability to shape the ball like I used to is somewhat coming around.

But I have 2 - 4 tee balls per round, every round that are complete pieces of shite and unplayable and lost more often than not. And I just have no confidence in my wedge game right now.

2020 goals:

1) Drop HC to 5 - didn’t get there
2) No more 3 putts - have gotten MUCH better but this guy still pops his head up every couple of rounds
3) play my rounds with only 2 sleeves of balls - ACCOMPLISHED
4) break 80 - didn’t get there

2021 goals:

1) Walk more than I ride - This goal is goes along with more of my overall fitness goals for the year. Besides, I enjoy walking the course and I feel like I play better when I do walk.

2) Spend more time working on my swing rather than just playing - I played more golf than I ever have this year but I spent more time on the course (especially these last 3 months) than I did at the range/hitting into the home net. I feel like if I had practiced more I would’ve improved my overall game more.

3) Better course management - mental mistakes turn into big numbers on the scorecard.

4) Break 80 - same goal I had this past year.

5) Drop my HC to a 10 or better - This past year I started as a 20 and got down to a 15.6 at one point. Currently I’m sitting at 16.4. Getting down to a 5 was an extremely unlikely and lofty goal, but I’m not disappointed I didn’t make the goal and definitely do not regret setting it as a goal to have. You’ve got to start somewhere.

Just started playing to get better back in April or May. Before I’d just go frick around with friends on the course and not keep track. Started off consistently in the 110s and now I’m pretty consistently in the low-mid 90’s. Handicap is down to a 19.1. For 2021, first goal is to break 90 (I shot 90 once). Then, to get my handicap lower than an 18. I feel like I’ll break 90 soon, then it will be about adding consistency to the upper 80s.

I'm going with a different angle this year,

- Play at least once a week.
- Play at least 20 different courses
- Play in 5+ different states
- Walk more than I ride
- Play in at least 3 serious four ball tournaments

Keeping it simple.

Play once a week...that has never seemed to work out for me
Walk more
Break 80 more often
Practice at home more, have enough land to hit full shots with all clubs using restricted flight balls so no reason not to other than being lazy.

Hit the range more than the course.
Get in a routine, I just walk up and hit the ball, no practice swing.
Play smarter, stop hero shots that I can't pull off.
Score more in the 80's than in the 100's or high 90's.
Enjoy and play more often.
