At this point I would settle for another Super Bowl win.

They need to get the state to abolish Jefferson, St Tammany, St Bernard, Plaquemines, and St Charles parishes. Call it all NOLA.

The hipsters could be part of what saves the city if they wouldn't vote for such far left policy makers. Hipsters usually bring tech or other higher paying jobs and/or have high disposable income. Those are the things the city needs.
In my experience with living in Nola for a few years, there seems to be a lot of people to move here from out of state and immediately begin being "God's chosen New Orleans-ians" because they think New Orleans is all about bohemian nonsense and "progressivism" and they complain about all of the Louisiana related aspects that impact New Orleans and they vote like where they came from.

Greatness only shows up every 100 years and NOLA had the opportunity for greatness after Katrina.
I'm not sure you can fix stupid when stupid doesn't think they need to be fixed.

quote:This isn’t just a New Orleans thing. Most people in Louisiana are all about 6 figure incomes (oilfield money) and not education. I’ve taught in various schools and graduated from a few colleges here so I see how many kids and their parents care very little about education.
segments of the population need to start worrying completely about education rather than other things.
Louisiana is almost if not dead last in education. Have you seen how Louisiana has the lowest ACT scores of high school students this year in history? The top two colleges here are Tulane and Loyola and almost 75% of their students are from out of state because the admission requirements are very strict.

1. Repeal of state inventory tax to revitalize warehouse and shipping sector (this was a big factor in shipping moving from the Port of Orleans to the Houston Ship Channel in the 70’s)
2. A complete dismantling of the democratic party’s political machine in New Orleans to allow for better candidates from all parts of the political spectrum to have a realistic chance at being elected.
3. Massive restructuring of municipal government to reduce salary and pension costs while improving services (particularly for water, sewage, roads, and permitting/inspections)
4. Significant repeal of regulations on businesses and buildings outside of the French Quarter to reduce permitting delays and filing burdens for entrepreneurs
5. Better land-based casinos with sports gambling
6. Legalization of marijuana and prostitution paired with creation of a safe red-light district adjacent to tourist areas
7. Repeal of consent decrees which ban NOPD hiring from beyond Orleans Parish lines, along with massive reform of OT policies, increased training, and massive starting pay increase to attract new officers
8. Cleaning out the DA’s office and voting out of corrupt judges who routinely dismiss serious violent criminal charges and set absurdly low bail allowing criminals back onto the street to commit more crimes.
9. Intense focus on literacy education to ensure no children graduate from the 6th grade without being able to read and write.
10. Create a tax credit scheme to entice outside investment from white collar industries like advertising, software, and art design to attract young professionals to live in the city.
11. Incorporation of New Orleans East as its own city separate from the City of New Orleans with its own police, fire, utilities, government, etc. This would likely improve both areas as the East would be run by people who live there and care about its success, and New Orleans would no longer be drug down by the East’s significantly worse crime statistics. I would consider doing the same with Arabi as well.
12. Massive public works infrastructure investment to clean out storm drains, catch basins, prevent seepage, and largely eliminate street flooding from ordinary rain storms.
13. Clean Bayou St. John to make it an inviting and safe waterfront for boating, swimming, and fishing.
14. Connect MSY to downtown and streetcar system via commuter rail.
15. Reform streetcar system via technology and practices to make service more predictable, trackable, and reliable while continuing to expand streetcar lines to cover more and more of the city. That way, the streetcar can become a truly reliable way to get around the city for work and events rather than mostly being a tourist attraction. Perhaps the Canal Street line could be extended all the way to Lakeshore Park, the St. Charles line extended all the way down Carrolton to intersect with the Canal Street Line, and the Rampart/St. Claude line extended to the Industrial Canal at the end of the Bywater.
who the frick downvoted this???
your the problem

Fix the tax structure and get rid of LA income tax, upgrade infrastructure, fix S&WB, etc...
Follow Texas' lead to attract businesses from Silicon Valley.
HPE, Oracle, TESLA and several others are moving to TX. Also, the stock exchange is looking to move to TX.
New Orleans or Louisiana are never considered by any companies looking to relocate.

Could it ever get back to what it was in the 60's and 70's?
It was already in decline by then.
Peaked about 1850s. Slow, gradual decline until the 1960s, when it began its rapid decline.
Was given a chance to reclaim former glory through a clean start post-Katrina.
Billions in federal investment, a lot of private investment, and the nation was conscious of and rooting for its resurgence. Its residents and leaders did about everything they could to ensure failure.
The saddest part of the failure of those efforts is that Knucklehead Nagin was the best of the Post-Katrina mayors. WTF dos that say?

New Orleans will NEVER be like it was during the pre 70's era. You can't change a culture that the majority of that city was born into. Single uneducated females will always be pushing out babies. The majority of those people aren't really sure who is the father of their child is. It's a never ending cycle like wash, repeat, wash, repeat. The uneducated have no desire to upgrade their standard of living. Why should they? Everything is given to them free of charge. If they can't afford it they just simply steal it. The uneducated have no thinking skills. They don't care about a political candidate's views. They basically vote on the color of that person's skin. Good luck on trying to restore NO's former glory because it sure ain't happening in our lifetime. You can't go to a grave yard during the day for fear of being robbed. Do you remember when a lady was praying in a Catholic Church and a certain element of "society" entered and raped her in the Church? Maybe the Hispanic population will take control of the city. One can only hope. High schools in the city are "graduating" kids who can barely read on the fifth grade level. As long as the population of NO has the mindset that they currently have, that city will never change but get worse.

Look at the kids from Tulane and Loyola, they are caricatures of what they think NOLA is about.

Pardon me, meant Emeril Lagasse. I knew it was one of the TV chefs who used to be the head chef at one of the big NOLA restaurants.

The pre-Katrina Tulane/Loyola kids were a lot more fun. They came to New Orleans to party rather than drench themselves in woke ideology and self indulgent "activism."
Now they perpetuate a laughable, caricature NOLA culture and brag about their authenticity.
Turrible.

Jails. Big, beautiful jails. Then, don't be afraid to fill them up. That's where I'd start.
