"The MD became the standard first degree in medicine in the US during the 19th century, but as a three-year undergraduate degree; it did not become established as a graduate degree until 1930. The MD, as the standard qualifying degree in medicine, gave that profession the ability (through the American Medical Association, established in 1847 for this purpose) to set and raise standards for entry into professional practice"
if only one can be a real doctorate, phd is the "real" doctorate.
or jd, but we're too cool to wear the doctor title. we let our deep knowledge base and extreme intelligence speak for us.

This is a ridiculous take though. I feel like most people who have a doctorate go by Dr.
she has a doctorate and has every right to go by Dr. Biden

My workgroup is about 1/2 STEM PhD.
Not a single person goes by "Dr".

It's going to get him some nasty responses but he's right. I wouldn't address someone with a PhD (in a non medical field) as doctor in a social situation. It may have meant this or that at one time, but in today's English, "doctor" is synonymous with physician. If my wife had a PhD I wouldn't go around telling people she's a doctor.

“I’m hoping Dr. Jill becomes the surgeon general,” Goldberg said on the air in March. “She’s a hell of a doctor. She’s an amazing doctor.”
Back in March Whoopi was confused as well. Going into “hell of a doctor”and “amazing doctor” shows you how full of crap she is.
I honestly rarely hear PhDs being called or referred to as doctor as often as she has been.
Also misogynistic is used now for any criticism for her and Kamela and even just disagreeing with them. Kamala was worst candidate in debates and early campaign, but it will be sexist and racist to point that out and anything that isn’t 100% positive in future. Same people pushing this don’t care what they have said about Melanie Or Ivanka past 4 years. Hunter will be off limits as a son of Biden even as they made fun of Trump’s youngest son.

Maybe don't start your article off with a paragraph that reads like this
and you wont get shite canned. This could have been written in a non dickish way but he decided to be a smartass and it bit him in the butt. Too bad so sad.
quote:
Madame First Lady—Mrs. Biden—Jill—kiddo: a bit of advice on what may seem like a small but I think is a not unimportant matter. Any chance you might drop the “Dr.” before your name? “Dr. Jill Biden” sounds and feels fraudulent, not to say a touch comic. Your degree is, I believe, an Ed.D., a doctor of education, earned at the University of Delaware through a dissertation with the unpromising title “Student Retention at the Community College Level: Meeting Students’ Needs.” A wise man once said that no one should call himself “Dr.” unless he has delivered a child. Think about it, Dr. Jill, and forthwith drop the doc.

In not going to wade through the bullshite.
The semen receptacle* of the homewrecking future occupant of the White House is no more a doctor than anyone teaching outside of a medical school.
*If you've got a problem with that descriptor of her and the senile old fart, where were you when FLOTUS was being called all kinds of vile things by the MSM?

Is her husband an honary unwitting Doctor of deceit or deflection, on behalf on the lunatic left to summarily install the Kamauler, post election?
´Tis my question.

I have a high strung MIL with a doctorate degree I'd early childhood development. She went through a phase of wanting everyone to address her as "Dr."
She finally figured out that nobody liked her better for it, so she wasn't going to get the respect she craved by insisting she be addressed that way.

Jill Biden’s title was the subject of attention earlier this year when Whoopi Goldberg, a co-host of “The View,” mistakenly believed Jill Biden was a medical doctor instead of an educator, with Goldberg even expressing hope that Jill Biden would become surgeon general in a Biden administration. “I’m hoping Dr. Jill becomes the surgeon general,” Goldberg said on the air in March. “She’s a hell of a doctor. She’s an amazing doctor.”
quote:
Co-hosts Meghan McCain and Sunny Hostin immediately raised suspicion about the accuracy of Goldberg’s claims, and Goldberg later corrected herself after a commercial break. “I was wrong, before you start texting and emailing,” Goldberg said, grinning at the audience.

It’s pretty much the same as using esquire behind your name as a lawyer.
It’s freaking cheesy and you need attention and titles in your life to feel important

If we are going to call doctorates of Education “Dr.” then we should do the same with lawyers. They earn a doctorate in a much more difficult field.

I know bunches of people w PhD. Not one of em is referred to as Dr in everyday life. Onky in work settings

She has a Ph.D; she is a doctor. She should as (Ed.) after her name as not to confuse Whoopi Goldberg though.
Posted on 12/14/20 at 9:00 am to VolsOut4Harambe
I don't see the problem, she's not a Dr.

He also argues that earning a Ph.D. “may once have held prestige, but that has been diminished by the erosion of seriousness and the relaxation of standards in university education generally.”
But Jill doesn’t have a PhD.

A PhD (or other non-medical doctorate) is cool.
Those with PhDs insisting that all others reference them with the honorarium prefix of ‘Dr.’ are pretentious, at best.
Those who believe that anyone with a PhD and who insists upon the usage of the honorarium ‘Dr.’ has special powers of imagination and insight into purely medical matters are prolly mostly stupid fricks that are lucky if they got their GED...

All the doctors of education putting doctor in their Twitter handle is so empowering. Take that, white man!
