Totally unrelated to Allen's politics I am sure.

Pixar said Thursday during its Disney Investor Day that Lightyear, an origin story about Toy Story‘s Buzz Lightyear, is in the works with Chris Evans voicing the lead.
Lightyear will follow how the test pilot became the space hero that spawned the Buzz Lightyear action figure made famous in Pixar’s Toy Story movies. Angus MacLane, the co-director of Finding Dory, will be taking the reins on Lightyear.
Also, Bao filmmaker Domee Shi has Turning Red, about a little girl named Mae, in development. Shi and Becky Neiman’s Bao won the Oscar for best short film in 2019.

That’s just fricked up if they kept Tim Allen out due to politics. Tom Hanks should step up for him if this is the case and Allen didn’t refuse the role.

Bao was awesome so I’m interested in that project

Tim Allen doesn't have the voice of a young man like would be needed for this preequel. He's also got a new season of Last Man Standing about to come out so there may have been a scheduling conflict. Go ahead and assume everything is political though, even when there's no evidence of it.

It looks like the movie is based on the person the toy is based on, which can explain the voice acting change.
Disney still has other actors who aren’t all SJW, so I’m not sold that’s the reason they changed voice actors.
ETA: this really seems like a good opportunity to have made this a live action movie

No thanks. Tim Allen is Buzz Lightyear. The end.

This the Chris Evans who was getting tired of playing Captain America & wanted to expand his horizons ? So ...he takes a voice job depicting an adventurous, masculine, heroic character ? Wow, that’s really crawling right out there on that limb.

This is total arse. Tim Allen IS Buzz Lightyear, not just the voice. Screw Disney for this.

Think of it this way...
In Jingle All The Way, Arnold was chasing a Turbo Man action figure. That Turbo Man action figure is the direct equivalent of Buzz in the Toy Story Franchise. The Turbo Man action figure in JIAT is based off an in universe tv show called Turbo Man, Buzz in TS is based off of an in universe movie called Lightyear. They are making Lightyear now.
I’m willing to bet that Tom Hanks cameo in the movie is likely 1. Woody at the end of the in movie universe commenting on watching the Lightyear film or 2. He has a small cameo voicing a character in the Lightyear universe itself.

Lightyear is about the real life astronaut that the Buzz toy is based on. Evans will play the real astronaut as well as voice the toy.

Regardless of Allen’s politics, why is this even being made?
Posted on 12/13/20 at 6:55 am to RollTide1987
Why are people making a big deal of this?
It is not the Buzz toy.
It is the story of the character the toy is based on.
It is NOT the toy from the Toy Story Universe. Tim Allen is the voice of that and always will be.

Evans took to Twitter to clarify that “this isn’t Buzz Lightyear the toy. This is the origin story of the human Buzz Lightyear that the toy is based on,” in a tweet that had a real “Actually, Frankenstein was the name of the scientist” energy to it.

Wow, as the actors get older, you do have to think if a younger voice might be an answer, but for Chris Evans?
Must be the estrogen in his voice they like. He's as snow flake as it gets. And the guy really thinks he's a super hero. LOL

Allen cancelled cause he support family values. The war is real.

Just wondering, how many of y'all melted in the early 2000s when the Buzz Light-year show came out and it didn't feature Tim Allen.
