That’s great.
Ed Orgerons first season as a HC he went 3-8. Dave Aranda went 2-7.
Aranda inherited a better program in a weaker conference.
I’m not even interested in comparing the two but to act like there’s some Grand Canyon size chasm between the two is fricking stupid.
You fricking goofballs on here who want to drink Arandas bath water have me defending Ed’s intellect

Is fricking stupid. this is actually what he is really good at and why he has been such a successful recruiter.
his problem is more personality conflicts and micromanaging.
But Im sure you are a very successful person, even though you cant see faults worth a shite.

What do you think are the odds of Orgeron handing the offense over completely to Callaway? I said this in the other thread that if he's truly that good and if he was a hot commodity last year, he won't stick around long as a QB coach or a PGC before someone wants him to run their offense. IMO, don't waste time with another OC if you think that highly of Russ. Just give him a shot.

I can tell you straight from people that are friends of O. Regardless of what was said in the media O and Aranda did not get along!
This is my mental image of Aranda every time O left the meeting room.

More and more it seems Ed struggles to "get along" with other coaches.
List is growing:
Canada
Aranda
Pelini
Beginning to think Ensminger's biggest contribution was acting as a buffer between Ed and Brady.

O always resented Aranda and due to his popularity with the fan base viewed him as a threat

I’m not an Orgeron fan so don’t take my criticism of Aranda from that point of view. I’m sorry, but I just never saw LSU’s defensive production matching the hype given to Aranda. Good coach, not a great coach.

That pisses me off too.
Never thought I would have to defend O about his brain power

Thats just not true
He didn't even fuch with brady

He was pretty freaking good

He has no clue anyway

Exactly, there are no “elite” defenses anymore. His is about as good as it gets these days.

So with Farrell and Gaye coming back, they gotta know the new DL coach (Bo Davis?) or possibly DC? Has there been a hire or guarantee hire?

I think people need to stop trying to compare Aranda at Baylor to O. Aranda literally replaced 90% of the staff on Baylor’s team because of departures. He had to deal with basically no Spring to shift gears because of Covid and then got thrown issue after issue because of game postponements.
That said, who knows if he is going to be a great head coach. Being a great football mind doesn’t make one a great coach. Plenty of football whizzes fail as head coaches but thrive as coordinators before and after.
As for O, everyone with a brain admits he is not an Xs and Os guy at all. He has almost no input there and when he has, it has been disastrous as seen with his Ole Miss days and the Troy game as an example. That doesn't mean he can’t be a strong HC. It just means he can’t eff up hiring coordinators. We have seen the effects of that in 2017 and now 2020.

And you know this to be a fact, absolute fact with proof... show it.

Yep even Mr Defense Nick Saban has admitted as much. It’s all about great offense and the game has evolved into getting stops with defense, not really being ‘dominant’. The game has changed and DCs and defenses are in chase mode.

Bump! I’m desperate!

Why did O continually make passive aggressive pissy comments toward him most of his tenure ? Why did he continually go out of his way to say how superior the Pelini D would be?
Posted on 1/3/21 at 4:25 pm to BilJ
Why in the official tbl thread is everyone trying to win the internet today....stawwwwp it...I keep clicking thinking some new info is here and it’s just a bunch of grown arse men (I think) bickering over who is smarter between O and Aranda...cmon man! GDT’s
