Looking back on that game you realize the huge upset was more due to undeserved medial hype and favorable circumstances for LSU to pull off the upset. Alabama was highly ranked because they were the defending champs. However, they were probably overrated because to that point they had not been great, at all. Their schedule was awful and they tied the only decent team they played ahead of LSU (Tennessee). Jay Barker was hurt and Alabama had to go with their backup, and eventually their do-everything WR at QB to even have much of a pulse offensively.

Now, it's not like LSU was worth a shite going into that game (3-5) so it was still a big upset. But that Bama team wasn't great. They lost to Auburn and Florida following the LSU game.

Nah. Our baws will come to play. Going to be a close first half and then Bama will pull away in the 3rd quarter. Still no way in hell they cover 28.5 or whatever it is now. Their defense is not a normal elite Bama D and I think Gilbert will have a career game. If we can run the ball decently and our secondary plays like they did last weekend it’s going to prevent a blow out type game. I’m thinking 44-31 Bama somewhere around that.

That game probably gave us Curley Hallman for one more year.

There had actually been a rumor the week before that if LSU had lost to Ole Miss, Hallman was going to be fired. LSU beat Ole Miss, then beat Alabama and Tulane to get to 5-5. Had LSU beat Arky in the season finale, the Tigers would have gone to the Carquest Bowl in Miami. Instead, the Hogs won easily and LSU suffered its fifth consecutive losing season.

It absolutely did. We snuck by Ole Piss on Halloween Night on a last second field goal, upset Bama and then beat Tulame. If we had beaten Arkansas at home (and we should have), we would have gone to a bowl that year. I was in the band and we were SURE we were headed for Miami and the CarQuest Bowl before that game. Damn that day sucked. That stretch definitely saved Curley’s arse so that he could do further damage the next year.

The whole band was at the Bama game and we definitely had some fun and talked 10 tons of shite to every Bammer in sight. The following year we were at the Auburn game, which was a lot of fun for one half before Curley and Lynn Amadee fricked it all up. Also talked a WHOLE LOT of shite to the AU fans around us that I regretted a quarter and a half later. The only worse games I can remember were the 2012 BCSNC Game and the 96 Bama game. That was a long fricking bus ride home.

I was too young to really remember those days, but I watched that 1992-93 Bama vs Miami Sugar Bowl youtube. Just insane that a team could win an NC w/o any QB play less than 30 years ago.
