Wait until you have symptoms, isolate for a few days.

Did you have close contact?
Per CDC

quote:

What counts as close contact?

You were within 6 feet of someone who has COVID-19 for a total of 15 minutes or more

You provided care at home to someone who is sick with COVID-19

You had direct physical contact with the person (hugged or kissed them)

You shared eating or drinking utensils

They sneezed, coughed, or somehow got respiratory droplets on you

Go in a day or two. Worst case you test negative and drive the positivity rate down a little.

I would wait until at least Tuesday to test if no symptoms (5 days from exposure).

Testing too early gives false negatives

Chill dude. Read the guidelines posted and define what exposed means. I’ve been in contact with people who came down with the Rona a few days later. Even had a family who came down with it in my house a few days before they were diagnosed. Just had to be observant of myself and family. We brought my kid in for a test after close contact, doc said no need to test without symptoms.

Mid 40’s, found out someone I was exposed to on a Tuesday, developed symptoms and tested positive on the Thursday. Had planned on going visit family around 70 yo. that Sunday. Went to urgent care thinking I could get a rapid test negative and be good to go. Get there and was told that without any symptoms, it was certain the rapid test would come back negative, but would not be a conclusive, in the clear, result. No point for me to get rapid tested. The rapid test does not have the low level of detection that the lab test has. You have to be symptomatic to have detectable levels of the virus for the rapid test. Lab test has lower level of detect ability and is conclusive when negative. Exposed and having no symptoms, lab test is the only way to go aside from quarantining. The wait on lab test was going to be 4-6 days. I had already waited for day 5, as days 5-7 are supposed to be the optimal days for testing. That would put me getting results close to the 14 day quarantine anyway, so I just postponed the family visit. The only value I can see in the rapid test, is if you are not aware of any exposure, but you have symptoms that could be the virus. In that scenario, it will tell you if the symptoms are being caused by the virus or not. That’s all it tells you. If you are confirmed to have been exposed, and have no symptoms, getting a rapid test result is meaningless. They also say that symptoms can develop anytime within 14 days of exposure. So again, known exposure, the options are 14 day quarantine or lab test if you’re sincere about it.

ETA- Dr also said they were growing more confident that exposure to a positive patient before they exhibited symptoms (My scenario), would likely not result in infection. Also, I‘ve read that CDC is mulling over reducing quarantine period to 7 days. Agree with it or not, I went by the book, not for my sake, but I didn’t want to be blamed for carrying

I’d probably get tested if I were you. If you’re in your mid 60’s you probably want to be safe than sorry.

As a doctor (Juris Doctor), I would recommend against it.
