But there is record numbers on the breeding grounds!
Well there probably was since Americans couldn't go to Canada to hunt this year.
I am wondering what NE LA is holding? They open Saturday. I have heard some mixed reports and obviously if you have water, you are probably gonna smoke them. However on openers during dry conditions, those ducks will either bug out to the coast pretty quick or stockpile on refuges that have water and not move till after dark.

It makes no sense that last November SouthWest Louisiana had almost the same amount of ducks that they have this year, even though they were hit with two hurricanes and the survey states that habitat conditions are poor. And they only had two "concentrations" of ducks.
Like I can understand why Southeast louisiana has less than last year as a lot of the marsh took one on the chin, and ducks are more spotty.

The normal habitat on the coast is very poor, but north of 82, there are flooded pastures for days. Water is everywhere. Ducks imprinted on the area are still heading down and finding food and safe dabbling, albeit a bit more North than usual.

You could not be more wrong.

Not sure how I could not be more wrong, I've hunted there for the last 7+ years as essentially my only spot and the amount of people, especially opening weekend, is ridiculous and gets worse each year. Baptiste is the worst which is why I don't hunt there anymore but PAL and the Delta aren't much better either. Not saying they don't have ducks, just saying that all the constant pressure on them makes you have to work harder and harder to consistently kill birds down there.

Our place in NELA is holding some birds but less than last couple yrs. Hoping the front this week pushed a few more down. Hunters will get them moving too which will help as well. I’m expecting an ok opener in terms of ducks killed. Regardless...we’re going to eat and drink well!

Let me tell you though. In my looking, I saw a Winchester SX4 with FDE receiver. As good as I thought the Franchi felt shouldered, the Win felt better. Only things that kept me from getting the Win were, great experience with my son's Franchi, and gas operation(I do not clean things).
