Going to be a SHITE show Saturday morning. Not many birds saturday for youth so I expect plenty of skyblasting and maybe some fist fighting over spots in SW LA public....Typical opener for any public land Louisiana big duck opener

Ours has never been harvested, just planted late in a new field. I hope it works like I hoped.

Careful how you access that field foot. Hunting an unharvested field is tricky. You can’t just go riding a wheeler out in it or tromping around.

He just needs to put a few crawfish traps out in front of blind and attempt to harvest them with one of those paddle boats.

To clarify, there is not one stitch of grain in it as of now. But thanks for the advice. I hadn’t considered that

Not heading out with seed now, but about a foot above water line. Farmer thinks it may make some seed prior to frost, what are the odds? How long does it take to make grain if temps stay reasonable warm for a bit

Go pull some plants and open them up and see where head is at inside. In the summer from when the rice first starts heading it takes about 45 days for rice to mature. This time of year at least 75 days

It it was cut, then it was left on purpose because the machines don’t leave shite behind these days

Laura was a hurricane when it passed through NELA with a bunch of rice ready to be cut or almost ready to cut. Delta sent TS force wind through there with rice still in the field so a bunch got knocked on the ground

I’ve seen pics from rice fields after Laura. A man would be hard pressed to put that much feed in a pond.

Went and worked on blinds in Pecan island today. Saw some birds. Expecting a decent shoot for opener. Water everywhere down there and the marsh is pretty beat up.

Yeah, same for us with water levels. Almost over my knee boat on bank cutting brush Sunday. I know it’s not saying much. I can parachute off a dime. But I digress. Hearing Wax got plenty, 4 kids had 18 teal and 2 greys Sunday. 2 of the girls had never hunted before.

Marsh in Hackberry was loaded with feed before the storms, not any left now.

On a recent radio spot from a rep of a well known outfitter over that way, he said that there was plenty feed left after the storms.....I tend to believe your account just a tad more than his but hey, maybe I'm wrong.

I'm hearing third hand that there are some grays in certain areas of Delacroix, I had seen a fair many spotty bunches a week ago from today. Will be tending my blind down there first thing tomorrow AM so will get better idea.

Yes its warm here, but these fronts that have been fizzling on us are pretty darn chilly for rest of the flyway, and its also been largely dry......there's hope!

Any word on when it will reopen? Didn't make it out there last year but planned on taking the pirogue from the walk in to some of my old spots this year.

Good amount of specks down and what fields have water are hold some ducks.

Are there still appreciable numbers of snow and blue geese migrating to Louisiana?

Yes.

BUT most acknowledge that the greater Kaplan/Gueydan/Thornwell/Hayes/Bell City region is not what it once was. Theres a lot of rice in central La now (Whiteville/Bunkie, etc.) with a lot of geese and also NE La is getting a lot of geese these days.

NE LA and obviously SE AR as well have been shortstopping geese from going much further South for decades now.
