We went through this with my dad a few years back; oxy and fentanyl. It took him almost losing everything to make the change himself.

Lost his job, wife (my mom) left and moved in with us, only time he’d call was for money or be knocking on our door in the middle of the night, we had to also take in my 9 year old step sister and put her in school with us; it got to the point my wife said enough is enough and moved out of state to get away from a toxic situation that was pulling us down.

He got professional help and cleaned up his act and our relationship has truly never been better. Just because someone is bad off today, doesn’t mean they have to be bad off tomorrow. Prayers for you and your family in this tough time.

Indeed it is. Sounds like some Al-Anon meetings might help you get past your anger and sadness.

Charles, that's really sad. I feel for you too. You are obviously very strong in that you can talk about it. Good for you for being able to.

I am sorry for you and your family's loss. My family has had some experience with addiction, tho I am very grateful to say we are several years past that dark time and did not suffer what you are experiencing.

My prayers for all impacted by this...

People who think this can't happen in their family are naive. Opiates are so easy to become addicted to and are often started for legitimate reasons. An opiate addiction changes the structure of brain cells so that the person is craving that high from then on. I've heard that the craving feels more like an actual physical need - like the need to breathe or drink water.

OP: I'm very sorry to hear about your godbrother. He sounds like an awesome person. Just try to get through this one day at a time. And though I've never heard of the term "godbrother" before now, I like it and will remember it.

Often times it’s easier to obtain Heroin than prescription opioids like Hydrocodone or Oxycodone. Methadone clinics are a fine idea in theory but often don’t work out as designed. Subutex and Suboxone is still far too limited by only allowing certain doctors to prescribe. Addiction is a tricky issue. Sorry for your loss.

Very sorry to hear about your loss and I will include u all in my prayers.

Also, ignore the pieces of complete shite that can’t respond in a respectful way. There’s evil in the world, and much more nowadays.

God Bless your family.

I know addiction is tough on more than just the addict. Nobody aspires to be a junky or drunk when they grow up. It’s impossible to explain until you live through it. Hope it gets better for you, man.

I dated this good looking girl in college, she was real proper from a nice family, sorority girl.

Dad was a college department head.

She ended up in prison in California, guess she got lucky and didn't die but that freaking heroin is leads to one or the other.

Glad I never tried it

Gotta be frustrating and depressing to have to go thru that. So far I've been lucky, at least that I know of. I doubt I would know how to handle it.

I’m so sorry. Addiction is in my family and it hurts... badly. Please try not to beat yourself up too much, it sounds like you were a really good friend to him. We can’t save them but take solace in your good memories.

Sorry for your loss man. I'm curious to see how things pan out in Oregon with them decriminalizing hard drugs. Apparently Portugal had a bad heroin problem that they were able to reverse by using taxpayer dollars for rehab instead of jail.
