Lost my godbrother a few days ago. He got sent home for being messed up at work, got into it with his gf and apparently went to his dealers/friends house. Did some heroin in the bathroom and overdosed. The guy saw he had OD’ed, sent a text to his friend to come pick him up, and left for work. Just left him there. He was still alive. By the time he came back, he was gone. His brother told me the cops are looking into it and charges are likely. This has fricked my family up so bad. He was the sweetest soul. He was SUCH a gentle soul. Say what you will about addicts, they are people. They’re your neighbor, your sister, sometimes they’re you. He’d been living in South La, and was clean, but he moved back to where heroin was readily available a few months back. I’m kicking myself for not taking more pictures with him, but I have so many memories from this summer. Just wish that wasn’t all I was left with.
If you’re an addict and you need help, please get it. If you need someone to talk to, reach out to someone or reach out to me. I can’t describe the pain our family is going through right now. This sucks so bad. I wish more than anything I could talk to him one more time and see him instead of knowing the last time I’ll see his face in him lying in a coffin.

Just lost a friend to drugs... have lost my best friend to the same thing.

Man, it’s sad. Nothing you can REALLY do about it , but it’s sad. The real trick is to love and help the surviving family members and people who loved the addict to not fall into the same trap.

Sorry for your families loss.

Being a drug addict doesn't remove the good in your brother.

Lots of families are dealing with addiction.

He dealt with a lot of childhood trauma that he never knew how to face. He covered it up with drugs. And you’re right, it doesn’t at all. He wouldn’t have hurt a fly. Was one of the most caring, benevolent people I’ve ever known. I’m thankful we got to spend as much time as we did this summer. It stings so bad. I can still remember specific conversations we had, word for word. This fricking sucks.

Sorry for your loss.

What’s a godbrother and where was he found dead? I’m confused by your story and it’s timeline.

Thanks man. We’re having trouble getting the money to bring him from Tennessee to Louisiana, pay for the memorial and cremation. I think someone started a gofundme, so that should help.

Man, I am so sorry for the loss of your brother. Be sure to take care of yourself as you work through the ordeal. Allow yourself time to grieve, but don’t be afraid to get some help from a grief counselor if you need it.

We’re Catholic, he’s my mom’s Godson, meaning if something happened to his mom or dad, my mom pledged through the church that she would take care of him and raise him. We’ve been inseparable since we were little. And he was found dead in the dealer/friends bathroom.

I gotcha. I was raised Catholic and have Godparents and I have 3 God Children and my kids have God Parents but never heard of having God siblings. Must be something new.

Anyhoo, I read it like when you said he was gone, that the friends had picked him up, but you meant he was passed away.

Again, I’m sorry for your loss. I hope you and your family the best through this difficult time.

I don’t know how to deal with this man. This was such a shock that I haven’t really accepted that it’s real. It feels like I’m gonna wake up and it’s all gonna be a dream. I can clearly see him surprising me at the door and picking me up when he hugged me. I was 3 years younger than him, 6 years younger than his older brother, and 2 years older than his younger brother. We did everything together. Got a pellet rifle this summer and shot targets til our arms went numb and we ran out of ammo. I’ve never known how to deal with death, but I really have no clue where to put this. This fricking hurts.

Our families pledged that if something ever happened to the others parents, that they’d raise their kids as their own. I’ve always called him my godbrother, I don’t know if that’s not proper or what. I never thought twice about it til this thread honestly.
