Unlike many of the O-T and many of my fellow Eagles, I didn't have any issue with the formation of girl troops. If they can achieve the rank of Eagle, they deserve the status of that.
So when I first saw this article, I thought, wow, pretty cool.
Then I started thinking about it. These girls were eligible to join in Feb 2019. It is now early October 2020. From Feb 2019 to Sept 2020 is 20 months. To go from entry to Eagle in 20 months is... rather fast.
To go from First Class to Star takes a minimum of 4 months, and to go from Star to Life and Life to Eagle is a minimum of 6 months each. So that's 16 months... assuming the ranks were hit on the first possible day. That leaves 4 months to go from Scout to First Class. Not impossible... but fast.
I would assume the girls followed the letter of the rank requirements. But something about this does not sit right with me. Making Eagle is supposed to be the culmination of a journey. 20 months isn't much of a journey.
This isn't an entirely new thing. Lots of boys have made Eagle in 24-30 months, and I think that's too fast as well.
Also, I'll state that all four of these girls came from the same troop.
There's a lot of O-Ters that live in Katy, so maybe one of you know these girls. I'm not trying to knock their accomplishment, I just wonder if, by moving through this in 20 months, perhaps they meet the letter of the rules, but have missed the spirit of the accomplishment.
And I would say the same thing about any boy that did this in 20 months.

Earlier this month, four members of Katy’s all-female Boy Scout Troop 1584 earned the highest honor within the program. They are the first girl Eagle Scouts in the Katy area and all began their journey as part of the first class in the group.

The BSA is a dead organization

Did they have to be molested by female scout leaders?
That's a badge, right?

I have no knowledge, but the cynic in me says the Boy Scouts needed some good publicity, so these girls got fast tracked to Eagle. Also strange they are from the same troop. Their scout leader had to have a part in fast tracking the process as well.
To your point, it usually takes a Boy scout several years. Whether you like the parent organization or not a scout that achieves eagle should be very proud of what they had to accomplish to get the rank.
This feels like a participation trophy and I agree if the scouts got fast tracked through the program in 20 months did they achieve the accomplishment or did they just check the boxes to get the rank for publicity?

Neither did I, I just didn't recognize them as actual Boy Scouts because, well, it's right there in the name.
I made Eagle in 2002.
20 months means they were fast tracked as a political stunt and these girls were used. Sad.
If they really did it legit, I am proud of them, but they are not Eagle Scouts

Can boys join girl scouts?

As a former scout who didn't reach Eagle, I agree, that is extremely fast. However, in the last 20 years or so I've noticed some scout organizations which appear to be rapid badge collection operations. They earn merit badges very quickly and in an organized manner. That was just different from my Troop back in the day where there were some organized activities for core stuff, but to advance you had to do a lot of independent work that the other scouts weren't doing. Putting the responsibility on the scouts slows the process down and builds self-motivation and self-reliance.
Considering the substantial decline in the organization since I was a member, it doesn't surprise me that there is pressure to advance new scouts, especially girls. Girls can do it, and can benefit from a true Boy Scout-style organization. No doubt. (The Girl Scouts organization was always a joke from a personal development standpoint.) But you make a valid observation here. Personal development takes time.

Same here and 99% of the Eagle Scouts that I was in scouts with don’t care either. My son is in a coed troop now and some of those girls are awesome. We went on a 2 1/2 day 20 mile hike the first weekend of October and 2 of the girls that went did better than most of the boys.
But yeah, getting Eagle in a year is a little quick.

I haven't read the full thread yet, so I'm not sure if what I'm about to write has already been said or not.
I'm an Eagle Scout. I'm okay with allowing girls into the BSA as long as the program goes unaltered.
Now, having said that in regards to the parts I've quoted, you have to take into account maturity differences at that age between the sexes, for one thing. Secondly, these were likely older teens rather than younger girls that just crossed over from Cubs. They gave anyone (or any girl?) that joined two years to complete the program. So...a 17 year old about to turn 18 in February of 2019 had time to complete Eagle. (Pretty sure this time is going to be extended for everyone due to the shutdown as well.) So..older/more mature = more organized.
With a new unit, likely consisting of a smaller number of girls, they probably didn't have any issue fulfilling the leadership position requirement for all the levels.
And, back to the maturity aspect, we'll likely see a higher percentage of female Scouts earn Eagle as the years go by compared to males. Just the way things are at that age group.

They're preparing them to fly through Ranger school like the first two clams that got pushed through.
