Given all the charities out there that desperately could use the funding, this is what they're giving it to. It's his money.

I wonder what percentage of recipients will use it for a good purpose or will fund their savings accounts, brokerage accounts, IRAs, etc.?

This country, for better or for worse, is a shell of its former self.

That is what the study is designed to find out.

ach selected family will receive at least a few hundred dollars on a recurring basis, as well as tools that will help them access financial guidance, Brown said. Parents or other residents caring for dependents may receive more. Anonymous researchers will track the participants' spending and well-being.

Oh and you california people need to stay in the beds you made.

we not already give the same people guaranteed income in the form of food stamps, medicaid, housing, etc? Sure we can give people guaranteed income if we cut every other program.

I’d be ok with cutting all those programs out completely and just sending 1 check a month and let people figure out how to spend it. The amount of check depends on sliding scale of income until you earn enough to get nothing.

Something like 85 million jobs are at risk of automation in the coming years. Robotics and AI are only accelerating.

In other words there’s a lot of people that better get used to the concept of UBI.
The societal changes that are coming are beyond what anyone realizes.

That 500.00 is just the cherry on top of the welfare already enjoyed by a whole lot of do-nothings. Lol

And the flip side is there will be jobs that exist 100 years from now that we cannot conceptualize now.

If you brought back a man from 1920 and told him we have people who are "social media managers" he would look at you perplexed as frick.

The same will happen to us.

The transition may be painful but we will survive. No need to go full doomer regarding AI and UBI.

Cool -that's how new programs should work. Tested, adjusted then expanded.
I know, I know. It's socialism and we all know that the only good socialism is socialism for the 1% and for large corporations.

Hypothetical. If we gave everyone an annual amount that allowed us to save money overall, would you be game? Like no government food programs. No public Healthcare. No welfare, etc.

How has this improved their standard of living? Has it had a noticeable impact on crime? Education? Employment?

Yang isn't wrong on this. Like him or not, he understands the technological future better than any of the other politicians out there.

No, he's not wrong but he also has a silicon valley coated Utopian vision of UBI, which in reality, is another term for welfare in middle America.

However, if we can get Facebook, Google, Tesla, Apple, etc. to contribute to it and it decreases the government's role in providing services, I'm all for that Libertarian idea.
