We talk about endings a lot. We even talk about great pilots a lot. But let's talk about great shows or movies with bad beginnings.

Succession comes to mind as something that took about half a season to grab my attention. My first reaction was "god damn all these people suck". But then by the end of season 1, and all of season 2, that shite knocked it out of the park.

This will be unpopular

But Breaking Bad is kind of a slog to get started in. Everyone is miserable, the setting is miserable, etc.

Parks and Rec

the 1st season was not good

also Black Sails, as the first couple of episodes are some of the cheesiest and worst episodes of the show

I don’t think this qualifies as being “bad”

Seinfeld is doesn't hit it's stride until after the first season or two.

Always Sunny definitely got a step up when they added Frank for season 2.

Star Trek: TNG got off to an awkward start with a new set of characters, new ships, new enemies, and a new period of time. It was a lot for fans to absorb quickly.

It took at least half the season before things started feeling comfortable.

The show was really rocking by third season.

Black Sails

First few episodes are a slow plodding beginning, but the series turns out to be outstanding. One of the best written shows ever. The monologues and dialogue on the show were a masterclass in writing.

Seinfeld is the correct answer. I don't even think I cracked a smile the first time I saw the first season.

The first season is still really strong though.

Spartacus. The first few episodes were cheesy gorefests but then it toned down and got into a really nice groove and became a very good show by the end of the season.

Good to know. I didn’t watch past episode one, but I’d like to give it another shot.

Peaky Blinders. I only say this because i stated and stopped watching 2-3 times before i actually got hooked. Subtitles saved it for me

You know, that's actually a really good answer. Not necessarily bad, but I did find it slow compared to the middle and end. Have an upvote.

Cache is pretty boring at the beginning, you really have to fight to stick it out...doesn't get intriguing for awhile.

The Pledge has the distinction of having a bad beginning and a bad ending...only the middle parts are worth salvaging.
