Today our office building (our firm is working in our offices, not from home) is having a virtual fire drill. This has to be one of the dumbest damn ideas I've ever heard of.

At sometime around 9 am, the fire dept will show up, and ring the alarm. We are not to leave our suites. Instead, we are to remain in our offices and visualize that if a real emergency was happening, how we would leave the building, and where in the parking lot we would go to.

The elevators will be turned off during the drill, just like they do everytime the alarm is sounded.

Supposedly this is because the building doesn't want "large groups gathering" because Covid.

So I guess this will be good practice if we ever have a virtual fire...

I hope the fire department goes into each office and tells them that if this was a real fire they'd be dead for being a moron.

Dude, I love a fire drill. I'm going to virtually come to yours. Is it at 9am central time?

This makes so much sense. If you virtually prepare to be stuck in the building while it burns down, then you won’t be in as much of a panic when it actually happens

I would dive out of the nearest window, thru the glass, complete 2 flips and a full turn and stick the landing. Then proceed to cartwheel the entire way to the parking lot spot specified to meet.

Ever since WFH started back in March for me, I have a perfect attendance/completion record for Fire Safety drill days.

Virtual thoughts and prayers for your safety. “In these trying times”.

Remember, we are all in this together.

That's about the most ridiculous thing I've heard of as far as a fire drill is concerned.

What kind of moron comes up with such a plan and implements it thinking it's a good idea?????
