Gustav put 80mph wind gusts in BR and knocked most of the area out of power.

I love how everyone from BR acts like this is so bad. power was only out for about a week or max 2 for almost everyone.

and it goes back to Slacks point earlier in this thread....everyone tries to act like hard asses talking about they would never leave...yet they turn around and talk about how bad gustav was and it wasnt even sustained hurricane winds and barely had gust above hurricane strength by the time it got to BR.

Love BR, but yall are some bitches when it comes to hurricanes. everything south of you laughs at a cat 1, yall freak and bring up a storm that gave yall tropical storm strength winds by the time it got to you.

The highest official gust was 90 mph, STFU about it. Also understand, the infrastructure in BR is much improved since then. You wont have nearly the damage next time a cat 1 hits, atleast you shouldnt.

Gustav was a bad arse storm....but not really to yall in BR. I dont ever here people from Houma, Thib, grand isle or hell even cocodrie complaining about how bad gustav was.

Yet here we are 200+ pages later and the BR bros are still talking like it was the storm of the century. Sound like the NYC people after sandy.

Since (so far) it’s a relatively small, fast-moving storm...

Will this keep the surge from being as bad in Lake P and Lake Maurepas?

It won't be small unfortunately.

The wind direction is what will help you. It'll be mostly out of the south and should limit how much water gets pushed into the Lake.

But follow up with the NWS forecasts in that because I'm just speculating and they have a better understanding of the hydrology than I do.

Main problem with BR right now is it hasn't really ran through any major wind events to harvest whatever is lingering around. There's a lot of old arse trees just waiting for a big storm to harvest them. The good side though, is the ground is probably not as saturated. Gustav came in right behind another storm that tore the grounds up so it made it very easy for Gustav to uproot trees all over the place.

That is an approx 110 mile shift west

So in 48 hours, the NHC had to correct themselves by 110 miles...? I am not sure if that's awful or brilliant.

The lull between the Euro and the 4 pm is perfect for some bullshitting.

Which takes me back to my controversial point earlier in the thread - I bet less than 50 posters on the site had actually experienced sustained hurricane force winds. Lots of hee-hawing about it, but almost no personal accounts, so I standby my statement.

Now, I will admit, I didn’t know we had nearly 210k members here over time, so 50 might be a touch too low, but I still stand by the sentiment that they’re very rare.

I have no idea. I’ve tried looking it up and there was no names storms on 8/1/1959. The airport got 2.3 inches of rain so maybe a small tornado?

Looks to me like there is some disagreement at how sharp the continued turn N will be at the 24hr mark.

Went & ran the boat this morning on the Amite

Gustav was so strong it make the Mississippi flow the wrong direction. I was catching White Marlin off the levee by LSU a week after the storm.

maybe a little

just gets fricking annoying how they talk about tropical storm force winds were the end all of everything.

yet these same people got pissed when slack said less than 50 people on this board have truly experienced hurricane force winds.

A true Cat 2 with sustained cat 2 winds would scare the living shite out of almost everyone here, especially the BR bros.
