Where does Coach O rank as all time

If he is able to somehow pull it off again. Another perfect season and CFP championship?
Given the circumstances, that would be all time legendary stuff. It’s harder to stay on top than it is to get there sometimes.

What a few more years & ask again.

1 more title and he’s #1. At this point I’d have him behind Les and alongside Saban.
Saban has 2 SEC championships but Orgeron assembled a team that is considered one of the greatest in CFB history + a Heisman winner. Essentially net out in my opinion.

I rank him above Miles simply because the brand of football Miles insisted on fielding was unwatchable at the end of his tenure.
Coach O fielded the greatest team in college football history, so he has that going for him.

If he goes undefeated for another NC he’s definitely tGOAT LSU coach.

Winning a championship isn't easy, and doing it so close to the firing of a head coach is special.

Nope! This is the rule, not the exception. Most coaches who have won a championship do it within four years of taking charge.

2020 will have an "*" no matter what the outcome is so I'm really interested to see how 2021 turns out.
Either way, the job O has done assembling staff, recruiting, program changes/upgrades and the product he has put on the field I would put him near the top of the active coaches.
All time? He's got to show sustainability and collect more hardware to even be in the conversation.

Pump the brakes.... We need to see what the staff does with these monster recruiting classes going forward. Bama is still the program to catch up to as far as consistency is concerned. I believe in this staff and two things must happen. 1 is to develop players to their potential and 2 is to somehow keep them on campus especially if they're really not ready for the NFL. Player development is light years better than under Miles.

Dietzel
Saban
Miles - won a shite load of games and a title plus took a team undefeated to a championship game. In my days before BCS, etc. , Miles wins a championship.
Mac - got screwed in the 60’s out of titles and had some seriously good teams. He did it really good for a very long time.
O
IMO - Arnsbarger was probably the greatest defensive X/Os coach we have ever had. He could coach. Took us from broke to a SEC title much like Saban.

quote:you are freaking out of your mind with this shite. LSU performed like a mid-tiered team but make no mistake they were loaded including in the trenches. When he took over there were 6 or more exits including a second team All SEC OLman.
Orgeron both took over mid-tier SEC teams
If you want a comparison of Saban to anyone, Coach Arnsbarger is one that took some limited talent and KILL it in the SEC. one could argue the talent was about the same. Nobody was better than Coach Dietzel. Not Saban, not Miles and none of the rest of them.

#1. Who else has beaten Texas, OU, Bama, and poor lil ol Clemson all in the same year? Shrimp boat Ed is the goat.

I mean I love the 2007 championship and all but let’s be real here. A 2 loss national champion that needed so much help from outside forces to even get a shot is what Les did. The guy was a good but not great coach. My whole point of this thread was if O is able to keep the team winning without the goat QB and all of everything else that they lost, he’s gotta be in the mix with all time greats like Jimmy Johnson and Pete Carrol.
