I have a regular dewalt drill... Would that work if paired with a masonry bit?

Probably - brick and mortar is pretty soft. Maybe set the drill to a slower speed and back it out frequently to remove the “dust”.

Impact driver and carbide bit works fine for me.

Dewalt drill should* work but you might need the extra torque.

With a good masonry bit and you don't run it too fast. I've found that the Bosch Blue Granite bits run pretty good without the hammer function, I use a spray bottle of water to keep the bit cooler and flush out the swarf though. Can even drill concrete with them.

Hell yeah it is.

OP, what size holes and how many? And how is accessibility? Drilling downward or horizontal? Kneeling, standing, or on a ladder?

Can't really give good advice without knowing those answers. I'll let you borrow my hammer drill before I let you spend hours working your arse off on something that could take 10 minutes.

This is the trick. Keep the bit cool. If not, you will burn it.

If you're not trying to burn up your drill. The people saying yes have 0 idea what sort of metals and other hard object can actually be found inside a brick.

Yeah, if I didn't already have one, I think my limit would be about 2 and a half 1/4" holes before going to the store to buy a hammer drill.

You can get a decent 5/8" hammer drill for probably $70. Worth it for 3+ holes.

It took me longer to try to drill 4 holes than it did to go to the store and buy a hammer drill. It makes it like drilling into wood.

You can't borrow a hammer drill? I have 2 20v hammer drills, they are nowhere near as good as a big one but they go through brick like butter.

That first hole you drill with a hammer drill after using a regular drill is mind blowing.

Plot twist. His drill is broken and will blame you. Buy him a cheap harbor freight.

I’ve pounded on the back of my drill while drilling brick before. It does work. But if you are doing more than setting a flag, get the hammer drill

This. Some mortar can be easy but some brick and mortar will eat bits with out the hammer option.
