And really I am specifically talking about the Milwaukee Bucks, everyone else just followed their lead.

I know this will turn into a political shite show thread, but I just wanted to say it is impressive that they were willing to take a stand and sacrifice something important to them for a cause they believe in.

Maybe they will get to replay the game, maybe the playoffs will continue, maybe the actual consequences they face will end up being none.

Regardless of what actually comes of this, they took a stand and were willing to face the consequence of a forfeit, loss of revenue, or worse, and for that they deserve props. It's always impressive to watch people take a stand for what they believe, whether you agree with their cause and their actions or not

I don't respect people who do extreme things based off of total lies.

I am not so sure about this. The Lakers and clippers were willing to lose revenue. They are teams full of vets who have made millions and millions. The other 11 squads want to play it out, compete, and get paid.

I have the little respect for the Bucks, namely because they didn't follow through. Started 'the boycott', then hours later voted as a team to keep playing.

I agree. I think they are stupid and short-sighted. But if they care more about social change than money and think this is the way to enact change, go for it.

What did they sacrifice? Honestly I am not trying to be a dick. Please answer me that before I gives these athletes a pat on the back for being woke.

At some point, we are gonna have to talk about actual data and who is effected by police, cultural issues in communities that lead to incarnation of a large segment of the population, and income opportunities. I don't think the people who are protesting will like what the data states.

What if the cause is completely illegitimate? When the George Floyd video came out, I told everyone I know that the police flat out murdered him. More facts have come out now that show that’s likely not true. When the Brionna Taylor news broke, everything pointed to the police killing a woman in her home because they had the wrong address. Facts are revealing that this isn’t true, either. The Kenosha case has been sketchy from the start. Facts are now coming out that show that the police were justified in their actions. Meanwhile, cities are burning and looted. What may have begun as a genuine protest seeking change has been co-opted by Marxists seeking chaos. So no, I don’t respect them. They are operating from a position of ignorance, willful or not.

Respect?

What am I suppose to respect? That a majority of these athletes have God given abilities to shoot a basketball and are multi millionaires?

And because they can dribble a ball, I should listen to what they have to say about my white privilege?

They decided to not play a game, for which they are paid $Million$, on a cause that had nothing to do with their job or performance in playing a game.

This wasn’t some boycott/strike for a new CBA...

None will be on the frontlines “peacefully” protesting, they will sit in a bubble or go back to gated mansions and tweet.

Respect? That’s a NO.

I appreciate their willingness to take a stand, but I'm not sure what they expect to accomplish.

Boycotts/protests are used to bring attention to an issue, and to put pressure for change.

I don't think lack of attention to the issue is a problem. Everyone knows about the issue.

As far as pressure for change, the NBA doesn't the ability to force police departments in liberal cities to not be racist.

Now, if they were to say, we are all going to take our playoff salaries and combine them to buy body cams for police departments, ok, now you are actually doing something.
