And they have to be absolutely 100% sure that the season is actually going to kick off before they do it.
They wouldn’t be considering a move unless there was a lot more issues behind the scenes.
A cancelled season is the final push to explore options, and the opportunity they needed to escape.

'18-'19 academic year
The Big 12 paid out $38.8 million, and the schools retained 3rd tier rights
The Big 10 paid out $55 million, however that number will be going down. Two schools Rutgers & Maryland do not get a full share, yet.

pretty much all comes down to what the contracts say with the big ten and if the conference cancelling the season gives them an out
Is this actually true? Wouldn't they get a share of their new conference's ad money offsetting any losses?

Georgia Tech to SEC East
No way in hell the SEC is letting Ga Tech back in.
And here I get to drop my favorite reminder.
Georgia tech has won a football NC and been to multiple final fours since the last time Georgia did either.
Kick out Georgia and bring back the true athletic power in the state

The original issue with the Big 12 was Texas getting preferential treatment. That drove out Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&M and Missouri.
Texas and the Big 12 NEED to get that situation under control, and come up with something that doesn't alienate the other members. If they do that, I could see Nebraska and Colorado, at least, returning to the group.
Colorado isn't particularly relevant, but regaining Nebraska would be a huge get. Forget current program status, it's about having a recognized name, and restoring classic rivalries.
Money- if the Big 12 can play this fall, I see them catching the Big 10 for TV revenues in the future. There will be an impact.

Don't need another UK,USC,Vandy in the East.
Nebraska needs to tell the B12 eff you, and join the SEC. Pick up NC State for the East, Nebraska and Missouri to the West, and move Bama and Auburn to the East.

ACC has made it really hard for a team to leave.

Nebraska has a history of over-reacting and throwing a hissy fit because of things that happen in 1 year.
Firing Solich; leaving the Big 12 because of Texas getting a bigger piece of the pie...and not melding with the former SWC schools.
And then getting to the Big10 and not melding with that Conference's leadership.
There's always some complaint with Nebraska...they should just go independent if Conference after Conference keeps holding them back.

Nebraska would be stupid to go back. Big 10 schools get just as much money as SEC schools. Big 12 schools don’t get anywhere near the money Neb gets, except for Texas, which has its own deal.
Nebraska isn’t leaving now, especially when the odds are no one will be playing football this fall anyway.
I disagree. We are witnessing game changing circumstances. The Big 12 is tied with the ACC and the SEC. So, the Big 12 is now a more attractive destination than the Big 10.

Nebraska complaints on the big 12 always seemed like they were mad they weren’t getting preferential treatment and not that Texas was. Don’t get me wrong Texas was the main issue but Nebraska seemed to have their own ego that muddled everything

Right. And I’m sure part of the reason they’re beefing with the Big 10 is because they don’t have the same voice as the original members, specifically Ohio State and Michigan. But aren’t they losing a ton of leverage with the Big 12 if they have to come back begging with hat in hand? If the same conference leadership is in place, their voice may be even less heard than before they initially left.
That would be the wrong move, however. Of all the P5s, and despite what happened yesterday and the Big 10’s and PAC 12’s lack of recent success in the BCS and CFBP, if Super Conferences are ever gonna happen, the Big 12 will be the 1st to dissolve. Any time it’s ever been discussed and mock conferences hypothetically created, it’s always either Texas and OU (and their respective state schools with them) to the PAC 12 or SEC and schools like Kansas, Kansas State, and Iowa State left holding the bag alone, desperately scurrying to find a chair.

That is shocking to me. I thought the breakup was ugly.

new people are in charge in the big 12. think the only school that would never come back under any circumstance is A&M. everybody else i could see probably coming back under the right circumstance

Each Big 12 school received $38.8 million in 2019.
It’s worth noting that these numbers don’t include third-tier broadcasting rights, such as revenue that Texas generates from ESPN for the Longhorn Network or what some of the other member schools may receive from Fox Sports or ESPN+ beyond the initial rights.
