There was nothing normal about the 2017 recruiting class. With the possible exceptions of 2001 and 2009, it is the best recruiting class we have had this century.

I didn’t say it was normal. I said it returned the talent level back to normal, which is the high LSU standard everyone has come to expect.

Les slept walked through much of his tenure at LSU. He got very lucky in 2007.
Unfortunately I hate to qualify a national title but we lost to two teams that ended the year 8-5 that we had no business losing to, one at home even. Hell, they go 7-6 if we beat them as we should have.
Then a very fortunate set of circumstances and unlikely losses from other teams at the end of the year vaults us into the title game.
Hell, we were fortunate to get out of Bama with a win, they were in full rebuild mode in Saban's first year.
Thank goodness we had Va. Tech on the schedule and throttled them early, and not some cupcake like some wanted us to schedule or we never would have overcome those two losses to get to that title game.

I thought this was going to be about the Under Armour all star game where we had hoped to get 5 recruits who were announcing that day.
Yeah... NOT the “5 for 5” I was expecting either.

IF Dinardo had fired Lou Tepper he would not have gotten fired when he did. IF Les had innovated the offense like he promised he would, he would not have gotten fired when he did. At the end, it all works out. 2019 National Champions.

Elmer Fudd was lucky.
His luck ran out.
Always does.

Must have been miserable to watch all that winning for those years. Aren't you glad after 11 years you were finally able to say, "see I told you"
Les’ teams were consistently frustrating to watch after ‘08. He was a solid program manager, but I hesitate to say great as he had too much pride to delegate correction of the game management & development/utilization of personnel issues.
He saw several NFL receivers come and go while fielding offenses as exciting as drying paint.

The next time O loses a game the same people that say this are going to say I never respected him from the Troy loss. He got lucky with Joe Burrow and Joe Brady. I always knew he would never work at LSU.
Doubt it. O flipped the trajectory of the program. Les maintained and then declined. The latter years were infuriating.
No one is going to attribute any of Os success to residuals. Our recruiting was falling off + our stigma was QB Death Valley... it was probably going to take a Heisman trophy winner to change that *cough cough*
CEO and Les were both “program manager” type coaches and notsomuch novel X/O mad scientists with their own trademarked playbooks.
With that in mind... CEO has done WAY more in terms of staffing, filling position needs, and utilizing talent than I can ever remember under Miles. Don’t forget Orgeron was also responsible for pulling a fair portion of defensive talent under Miles as well...

The game where Mett died on the field was the end for me.
Same
I still had a sliver of hope he would turn it around
Watching Mett crawl off the field while the play calling and O line play left him out there to die was the lowest point of LSU fan feeling for me
I never expected anything good from Les after that

Sure hope you don't credit Saban for 2007 then

I never respected him from the first game against Tennessee. We had a big half-time lead and he sat on the ball until they caught, tied, then beat us.
It was like 2 weeks after Katrina and that’s fricking ridiculous.
Please only claim 3 NCs from now on as you clearly don’t want part of his.
