Say what you want about some of Les Miles faults, and he had some, but he was 100% the right coach for us on the day we beat Urban and Tebow in 2007. Just watched highlights from that game on DandyDon this morning. 5 for 5 on 4th down, and what a ballsy call to do it with 2 minutes left in the game, inside the 10 yard line when a FG ties the game. Brings back good memories. Les' time came and went, but he made me proud that day!

No "we" didn't.
I never respected him from the first game against Tennessee. We had a big half-time lead and he sat on the ball until they caught, tied, then beat us.
With a couple minutes left, while tied, he killed the clock rather than go for the win. He wasted more talent than any other coach in LSU history.
He is now where he deserves to be.

Dude, if you weren't fired up and glad he was our coach after that Florida game, then you are some kind of pissy fan. Did you watch that game?

I thought this was going to be about the Under Armour all star game where we had hoped to get 5 recruits who were announcing that day.

He permanently changed his coaching style after Jarrett Lee’s very rough year in 2008. Never took risks again, lost any killer instinct, and always relied on other teams to lose the game instead of us trying to win

Was hoping this thread might be about the way we played that game, and the gutsy calls. I remember what a satisfying win that was. Try watching the highlights. Or just be negative; suit yourself.

The game where Mett died on the field was the end for me.

No doubt he was a good coach. He just wasn’t a great offensive mind and was stubborn to change. By the time that Florida game rolled around he hadn’t quite been figured out yet; in terms of his willingness to take risks. Later in his tenure at LSU his tricks were less effective. He was a good coach with good players who allowed his philosophy to work. Miles would have flourished in the 1960’s and 1970’s had he coached then. He got bit by the era of “spread” football and his failure to evolve.

I blame Les for a lot of things and he deserves it, but the loss to Tennessee isn't one of them.

Les running Hester up the middle on 4th down 5 times actually shows how unimaginative he was/is. Don't give Les the credit on this. It all goes to Hester. He made a poor coach look good on that night.

FL, Auburn, and South Carolina games in 2007, he played to WIN. But he stopped fully trusting the QB position to win the game after the 2008 season after Perriloux was dismissed from the team and placing all the pressure on Lee as a redshirt Freshman who was not yet ready.

Looking back, it's almost a certainty Les probably thought we were down 4 and didn't realize a field goal would tie.

Lester the clock molester pissed away more talent than anyone. It’s criminal what he did to the talent we had.

Let's say too Coach Miles left us all conflicted... highs and lows - great examples with the Tennessee and Florida games but there were a dozen or more close wins that need not have been nail biters. His clock management at halftime and 4th quarter was legendary. He was outcoached repeatedly, and notably in the LSU - tide rematch.

He had as much talent as anyone. Forever LSU...
