re: Fred's Bar lawsuit over patron fight death moves forward...
Posted by chilge2 on 8/12/25 at 6:08 pm to brewhan davey
It was an exception of no cause of action. And while ridiculous, I think Judge Moore made the right decision here. The plaintiffs alleged that Fred's was liable for overserving alcohol and for expelling the inebriated patrons "through the same exit and the same time" after it knew or should have known of their propensity of violence towards one another. Fred's filed the exception alleging the protections of the anti-dram shop legislation without giving any consideration to the other theory of recovery and failed to file a reply memorandum to rehabilitate their argument in advance of the hearing.
There's a post-hearing memo that was filed today that isn't available to the public yet. Time will tell what that's all about

The further the Bucs advance, the worse of a look it is for DA and Carmichael and might move the needle so slightly that the trigger might be pulled on one or both of them. That's about all I got.

And with the NIL and portal debacles, it’s even more difficult to build and manage a football operation. Imagine those two previous knuckle draggers in today’s football world.
I may be in the minority, but I actually think Les would kill it here in the NIL era. With a couple of exceptions, he always had extremely physical, stout, and deep teams. QB development was his Achilles' heel. If he had been able to take advantage of a Bo Nix, Michael Penix, or Jayden Daniels coming into the program and playing at a high level after cutting their teeth at a lower-level program, we could be talking about him as one of the greats.
That said, I have full confidence that Brian Kelly will do this.
re: Brian Thomas Jr. - What’s the deal?

Auburn's game plan was to eliminate him. They had him bracketed with a safety all night. They did what they set out to do and Lacey filled in nicely in his place.
Best WR Combo in LSU History

Take your pick. LSU Career Only.
Malik Nabors / Brian Thomas, Jr.
Ja'marr Chase / Justin Jefferson
Odell Beckham, Jr. / Jarvis Landry
Early Doucet / Dwayne Bowe
Michael Clayton / Devery Henderson
Josh Reed / Josh Reed again
Anyone else?

But more importantly if we did save Skenes we would still need to win 1 game with out him, so in your scenario we lose the finals to Florida either way
If you save Skenes for Game 1, you're giving Floyd/Ack, etc. an extra day of rest as well and therefore more likely to win Game 2. I don't think there's really any argument to the contrary. You're either content to beat Wake and increase your chances of a loss to Florida in the finals, or you roll the dice, ask your guys to dig deep, and put yourself in the best possible position for a championship run.
re: Here's why he starts Skenes
Posted by chilge2 on 6/22/23 at 2:54 pm to Jim Rockford
I believe this is Johnson's exact mindset and why it is highly likely that Skenes starts. I also believe the best decision for Jay's job security is not the best decision for LSU's title hopes.

The problem is that if we win, it's not the last game of the year and we didn't hold anything back to throw at Florida.

Exactly. The question is how big are his balls? Does he go conservative again by taking the win over WF by throwing Skenes and putting us at a decided disadvantage against Florida, or does he trust the bullpen which has already come up huge so far and put us in the best position to win it all?
There are two types of people arguing who to start tonight: those who want to do the safe thing and "see what happens" and those who want to go for it all or go down in flames. There's no "wrong" answer except in hindsight.
quote:
No, they don't. They also don't understand that the season is over if we lose tonight. Skenes gives you the best bet. That is who will be on the mound.
What difference does it make if we lose tonight or win tonight but go 0-2 against Florida? Saving Skenes for Saturday is your best chance to bring a trophy home.
quote:
I guess my point is that Florida is no more dangerous a team than Wake is, so why are some of our fans acting as if we'd be better off throwing trash against Wake because we'll need the big boys more against UF?
Florida is infinitely more dangerous with the wind behind the ball than Wake is with the wind pushing the ball back into the stadium.
quote:
So if we were to go out there and lose 3-2 tonight with Skenes sitting on the bench, you’d probably feel like an idiot.
No, it would suck, but we're not playing for an appearance in the finals. I want to win the whole damn thing and my gut is telling me that saving Skenes for Saturday is the way to do that.

save him for what? Its win or go home.
I personally believe that WF is overhyped and overmatched, that the only reason they won the first game was because someone paid off the umpire in the sixth inning, and the Tigers are going to prevail no matter who we walk out onto the mound.

If I'm Jay, I'm saving Skenes...

Let the downvotes commence, but...
I've been here all week. Wind is going to continue blowing inside a very pitcher-friendly stadium tonight, and Wake is hitting the worst of any team in the CWS. All we have to do is keep it over the plate and let our outfielders collect those fly balls. Especially after the performances from Ack and Griffin, I'm confident we can bring this home with Hurd, Guidry, Money and Coop.
On the other hand, Florida is arguably the best hitting team thus far and the only team in Omaha who has been able to consistently knock it out of the park. Also consider the direction of the wind should be changing to blow out of the stadium for the finals. I would feel 1000x more comfortable with Skenes on the mound in that scenario.
I know the obvious choice is to ride Skenes into the finals, just not sure that's the best strategy.

may not matter much but NCstate beating UNC hurts Clemson, less of a quality win for Clemson (if they win)
Same rationale would apply to Cal beating UCLA a la USC, I would think.

More likely that Georgia stays at the No. 3 seed and we get in as No. 4 in this scenario, I would think. Either way, I believe that the entire country has already forgiven the Florida State game.
The LSU Triple Option

SIAP but I just really love this play. Kept expecting Saban to figure it out and put a stop to it, but it just worked time and time and time again.
Get the interior defense to commit to stopping Williams with the inside run, bounce it out to the outside and watch some poor sap choose between an open field tackle of Daniels or getting burned by our WRs along the sideline. Granted I'm only a casual observer of anything unrelated to LSU, but this seemed like a truly innovative play design that we can have a lot of fun with. Only thing I'd like to have seen a time or two is the WR taking it up the field sort of like a wheel route

Starting hot.. what's the problem?

First and foremost, Kelly has done an amazing job with this team and the second half adjustments, defensive strangleholds, and recent development of Daniels has been nothing short of extraordinary.
But how do fix the level of intensity to start games? We could be downright dominant if we can start right out of the gate without tripping.
Florida State started 3-17. Finished 23-24
Miss State started 0-13. Finished 31-16
Auburn started 0-17. Finished 21-17
Tennessee started 0-20. Finished 13-40
Ole Miss started 3-17. Finished 45-20
Thought?
