At $7 a pop, you’ll get a lot of business.

I literally thought of starting this thread yesterday.

I needed a snack and was in Walgreens, I saw tiny bags of beef jerky with like 4 pieces in each for 6 dollars. Its outrageous.

$60 sounds a little steep for a handjob.

I’m pretty sure that you lose a lot of the weight by converting beef to jerkey

correct, you should be selling cracklins at $26.00/pound. Much higher ROI

If you're gonna pay $20/lb for beef jerky, at least get it from Bourgeois Meat Market in Thibodeaux. LINK

The secret is to season the meat while the people are still alive.

If you jerk beef for a living, you never work a day in your life

Someone told me it takes 7 pounds of flank steak to yield a pound of jerky. Hence the cost.

Well, considering the beef loses between 1/2 to 3/4 of it's original weight during the dehydration process and then factor in the cost of spices and other goods to season the meat, the cost of energy in charcoal and wood for smoking the meat and the labor of making and packaging it, it really isn't all that bad.

ETA: And if doing it for sale to the general public, factor in business insurances and they really aren't making that big killing you think they are.
