Every single one of these "racist experiences" is based on their interpretation of what is going on around them them rather than what is objectively happening.

That is exactly right. She is incredibly paranoid, and will pass all that BS attitude on to her biracial daughter.

I laughed. In all seriousness she reads too much into anything she can find and I’m sure the huffington post helped.

Not sure why this 6’5” black guy wanted to marry this crazy white bitch but, as they say, “He Done fricked up”. Maybe his momma was mean to him and that’s what he knew. Or maybe, maybe, this is all fiction and bull shite.

McDonald's gave me a Dr. Pepper instead of a Diet Coke. Obviously a micro aggression or maybe just life.

She's actually not wrong about this. Try finding an anniversary card with a white man/black woman couple on it. It's a needle in a haystack.

Then I stand corrected. Obviously I’ve never had to hunt for a representative couple of an anniversary card (or even a “From Us” card), which probably contributes to my impression of not having seen very many couples on cards to begin with. If I had I could see that I might feel differently.

But after 20 years I’ve bought plenty of anniversary cards for my husband, and I swear they all just have some sort of generic background: one year the aged brown leather, the next year the blue paisley, the year after the gray marble, and then the cycle starts over again. Or maybe I’m just not that creative about card shopping.

I’m tired of having to find a different gas station when the one we drive by has two trucks with confederate flags and 6 white boys in sleeveless shirts standing around outside.

Hmm, is she aware that white people will not stop at a station with those idiots hanging out either? I would drive by also.

A story like yours I could agree with and see the point. Unless there had been some prior issues with criminal or disruptive behavior in the library it seems poor policing to bother anyone peacefully using library resources.

I don't blame the guy too much. There was definitely the occasional issue with outsiders trying to use the library after midnight (which wasn't allowed).

Some were, ill-behaved...

Here's my single biggest takeaway from this thread:

WTF kind of greeting cards are you people buying that have people on/in them?

I've never once bought or received a card that has any sort of humans meant to look realistic in it. In fact, a VAST majority of cards just have text and maybe some sort of decorative design for the occasion; why not just buy one of the hundreds of those?

This sounds ridiculous to complain about and purposely seek out.

I had a night job at Canes and I got pulled over constantly on the interstate because I was a young male driving a Mustang. It was painfully obvious they wanted to make sure I was sober.

This. I'm a young(ish) white male that also happens to be a federal law enforcement officer; because of my job, I sometimes work and drive in the middle of the night at all hours.

Back when I had my Challenger R/T with big wheels and red stripes down the side, I would get pulled over ALL. THE. TIME. at night for no reason. I got pulled over once for doing 66 in a 60 ON THE INTERSTATE.

I've known dozens of local and state LEOs through working along side them, and they'll be the first to tell you they profile the car itself more than anything.

People also don't realize it's extremely tough to determine someone's race as they drive by at high speed during the day, there's glares, window tint, reflections, other cars in the way, and you only see them shoulders-up to begin with. It's impossible at night with headlights in your eyes and most cars having some form of rear window tint, and more light existing outside the car. This is true at both high and low speeds.

The car is what they/we profile. A black man in an average car would have infinitely less problems out of police than a white guy driving an old junker or something with giant rims. That's just how it is.

I've heard dozens of LEOs say the exact same. Hell, my wife and I figured it was a big reason she got pulled over more than me early on. She drove a loud red two-door car. I drove a plain white surburban.

Someone should have explained to her, years ago, that life isn't fair. If she, her husband, and children are healthy she should be thankful. If not, take a vacation to Haiti. I was told by a nice Haitian lady that there is no stigma to mixed marriages in Haiti. It sounds like the ideal home for Karens.

I see this Karen has bought, hook line and sinker, into capitalizing "black" and not "white" when referencing one's skin color.

Hey, KAREN: YOU sound like a racist.

I don't understand why more people don't get this.

I move tons of cocaine in my minivan and have never once had a problem.

Just being honest here but, in my 50+ years of life, I haven't seen much correlation between "big black guy" and "dangerous black guy"

Seems to me, the most common "thuggish" ones are the ones who are trying to prove themselves "hard". Mr. 6'4" 240 doesn't need to go around beating arse for people to recognize his physical prowess. Most big black guys I've ever known personally were sort of gentle giant types in demeanor(even if they were perfectly capable of not being gentle)

That 5'9" 150 ghetto fricker though is one violent a-hole.

This narrative is largely fiction, sprinkled with a few anecdotes from her experience, but mostly movies and distorted news reports.

There, I said it.
