Now, In full disclosure... I've been drinking a lot tonight. So I have a college degree. I'm also 42. Is there any possible branch of the United States Military that I could actually sign up for?

Air Force? Reserve? Etc. Is there any current service a man of my age could enter?

Just curious. I'm pretty athletic and mobile? Am I too old to do anything?

If you get a medical waiver they'll allow you in. I went to A school with a 40 year old.

You want to take a pay cut and take shite from a guy with barely a high school diploma?

Join a CrossFit gym. Same set of losers, but you don't have to share toilets.

Even if you qualify, you don't hold many cards unless you have something special to offer like speaking a rare language or having a medical skill. The recruiter isn't going to be beating down your door to offer you a cool guy MOS or duty station. You may end up at Ft Bliss washing trucks.

OTOH If you have something to offer that they need, anything is possible. My buddy went through the Q Course at 42, but he was a prior service Ranger with a max PT score and a Master's degree. Plus they were fighting two wars and needed experienced guys they could throw into the fray asap.

Civilian contractor on a military facility may be a better option.

"42 year old alcoholic divorced father of 3 enlists" sounds like the plot to bad comedy (I may have just made up some details about your life).

For reference:

When I got out of the Navy, I was "old" and "experienced". There were others on the submarine older than me, but I was in the top 20% or so in the age distribution curve.

Then, I got out, went to college, and celebrated my 26th Birthday later that year.

At 38 - Enlisted people start retiring (signed up at 18 and served 20), and most do not re-enlist which skews the age distribution much, much younger.

At 42 - Officers start retiring (Commissioned at 22 and serving 20).

I bet if we go to war with China, the age limit will be "a pulse and functioning legs"... That might be your best bet. Drop the President a DM and see if it's on the table.

Compare your hangover recovery time now to when you were in your early 20's and you'll have the answer.

Unless it was WW3, no way I'd go into the military at 42 yrs old regardless of the MOS.

If you were Hunter Biden, you could be easily inserted into the officer corps of the Navy at the age of 45 like he was, before he was kicked out for doing coke.

You can try the Guard. They may let you join. And that’s not a knock on the Guard.

Have you considered State Guard? Texas Guard says they will let you enlist up to age 67.

More power to you Man. I’m 46 now. I retired from the Army when I was 38. There’s no way in hell I could imagine doing that shite at my age now.

I was in basic with a 40+ year old down in Ft. Benning back in 2010. It's possible.

are you crazy? Couldn't imagine enlisting at 42. I enlisted at 20 with 2 years of college. It was kinda hard dealing with some of the low iq mouth breathers.

Consider that you will be 20 or more years older than many of the junior nco's.
