Ah yes... Nothing like being on a timed trip from Georgia to Texas and driving basically 8-10 hours total out of the way to go through Fayetteville on your way to Texarkana!
Now that's incredible navigation by the Snowman and Bandit

She insulted my son. She insulted my authority. And that's nothin' but pure and simple old-fashioned communism. Happens every time one of those dancers starts poon-tangin' around with those show-folk figs!”
Not sure if I’m happy or sad that I’ve got use that line numerous times in a similar manner after leaving my mother-in-laws house since she is under the assumption that she is the only one capable of properly raising my son. I add the poon-tangin’ part anyway even though she would be last person to associate with those folk.

Junior : Daddy, the top came off.
Buford T. Justice : No shite.
Would love to know how many times I saw this growing up. I can still remember the Archie Manning commercials being played during it.

Mike Henry was actually a great athlete, he played Tarzan and actually a guard and acted with Reynolds in the longest yard

I would give anyone who has never seen it 1,000 if they could make it through the whole movie without laughing......

Well, Needham kind of knew what to do with the action sequences, but that was his first movie in the big chair. I think they worked off his original story and script first draft (there are relatively prestigious screenwriters credited, but I don't know how much or how little of what they wrote or polished that made it into the final film), but since Burt told Hal, essentially, that his draft was the worst script he had ever read, most of the dialogue was ad-libbed.
Having great actors with great comic timing certainly helped that along the way. McCormick and Williams as the Enoses, Jerry Reed as Snowman, Fields as Frog, Gleason as Justice and, of course, Reynolds in the lead all made that possible. When you break it down - that was a ton of comedy/variety talent packed into the cast supporting an A-list leading man. Both Fields and Reynolds were hot properties in the 70s and both had great comedy instincts.

I saw an interview with Burt Reynolds and he said when they were filming, it was really hard to get the Sheriff character down. They kept trying different things and either Gleason was funny, but in a Honeymooners way, or it was not funny and did not come off well. Gleason asked Burt what he wanted him to do and Burt just told him, I don't know, maybe just curse a lot. He said he had no idea what would come of that, but it worked perfect.

One of the best of the Tarzan actors. His two films had a 007 feel to them. Really well done.

"I can see her now. Running back up that isle. No she was dancing back up the isle. Knockas bouncing all over joint. Let go that wheel. Her arse was wiggling too."
The way he delivers these lines is hysterical.
That, and when he comes jumping out of the car ("evidence") to yell at the trooper for yelling at him![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconrotflmao.gif)

Four pages and not one picture of America's Sweetheart?
She was a little older than I so I had a crush from Gidget through Flying Nun (confusing for a Catholic boy) to Aunt Mae.

And for those young ones who don't know, Jerry Reed also sang the song, Eastbound and Down, that plays throughout the movie.

I’m in my 40’s and whenever my parents ask me what I want to eat, I say “Hushpuppies, daddy.”
