I watched a documentary on the making of that movie and they said Gleason's lines were about 99% ad-lib. Dude was funny as hell. I forget how many cars they went through.

I have to watch it every time I see it on. Jackie makes the movie, period.

Gleason's facial expressions alone make the movie. Just fantastic.

Yeah, it would likely piss off several different factions of the cancel culture now.

You must be pretty young.

This movie is a classic. Every red-blooded american boy over 10 should see it. I had two of my nephews over for movie night and we watched it with my daughters (they were all teenagers, about the same age I was when I first saw it). They thought it was a hoot.

HOW MUCH DO I LOVE THIS CLASSIC MOVIE?

Back in 2015, my best friend got together with an old girlfriend and he convinced her to move back from GREEN BAY to New Orleans (they married shortly after). They asked me to help them move; paid my way up there via plane, and I drove the moving truck down from Green Bay while they rode down in her car.

I immediately noted the similarities to "Smokey and the Bandit". I was like Jerry Reed (Snowman), my friend was Burt Reynolds (Bandit) and his girlfriend was Sally Field (Carrie/"Frog"). I played up the angle to the max-- I made up a Trans Am firebird on a printable magnet sheet for them to put on the hood of their car, and I also (for the 1st day driving) dressed up like this:

As you can see, I even went so far as printing the same mural as the bandit truck on our work plotter and taping it to the outside of the Hertz.

For the final piece de resistance, I stopped off at a convenience store on my way out of Green Bay and picked up this for the back of the truck:

The whole way down we were in contact via smart phone speaker instead of CB, but our calls were all in the vein of "Breaker one-nine -- Bandit you got your ears on?" "I need to stop and get some go-go juice and shove some groceries down my neck" and "The Snowman is a-comin' through!"

Watch the second one as well. The third one has some funny moments, but it really loses something by lacking Burt in it.

The amount of open containers in the movie is glorious.

If we were Methodists, we'd have a shot at getting laid tonight.

ETA: After seeing the thread, I watched it for the umpteenth time (though it's probably been since I was a young teenager) again. Then Dr. Stranglove. Then Cannonball Run (basically a required back to back viewing with Bandit back in the day). Weird night.

I need to watch that again. I saw it in the movie theater growing up.
